About this Environmental Health Officer job in Canterbury: You’ll join our Environmental Health team’s Hybrid working, spending your time working from home, the office, and getting out around the district to carry out food hygiene inspections. You will carry out routine inspections of food businesses to promote and enforce compliance with food safety, health and safety at work and public health legislation and guidance You will investigate complaints about food safety and food poisoning, investigate outbreaks and work closely with UKHSA Following inspections, you will write up inspection reports and answer correspondence. You will attend inter-agency working groups that are relevant to the team. Working with the Environmental Health Manager and Lead Food Officer, other council departments and external bodies, you’ll work to deliver departmental and corporate targets to implement our corporate plan and achieve the council’s aims. You will be required to cover Health & Safety work during periods of leave or illness. This will require you to enforce the requirements of the Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974 and other relevant occupational health and safety legislation regarding safety at work requirements Environmental Health Officer’s working pattern: Monday to Friday, 37 hours per week. We offer flexible, hybrid working arrangements. You’ll benefit from a full week off over the Christmas period, bank holidays off, PLUS 23 days of annual leave to use throughout the rest of the year. About you, the ideal Environmental Health Officer for the job: Your qualifications A recognised professional qualification in Environmental Health. Educated to Degree level or equivalent. Be EHORB registered NEBOSH diploma OR an equivalent qualification Your experience You should have prior working experience in a local authority regulatory environment carrying out food hygiene inspections, complaint work, and investigating outbreaks of infectious disease You should have experience investigating Health and Safety complaints Your experience will demonstrate good communication and IT skills, which will ideally include at least one year working in Food Safety and independently carrying out food hygiene inspections You will need to be able to drive and have a car Your knowledge You’ll have developed a comprehensive knowledge of Environmental Health, associated legislation, codes of practice and the roles of other statutory agencies. In particular, you’ll have a comprehensive knowledge of Food Safety Legislation. Due to the nature of this role, a Basic DBS check is required.
