Job Summary
Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust is looking to appoint a Consultant Community Paediatrician to the Kaleidoscope Children's Centre, Lewisham. The post holder will have responsibility to deliver a community paediatric service. This is a new post with a special interest in the communication clinic pathway with assessments of children with social communication disorders. This role will have a lead within the communication clinic for diagnosis for the under 5-year-old group.
There is no overnight commitment. The post holder will contribute to the daytime child protection rota, but there is no expectation to contribute to Childhood Sexual Abuse (CSA) medicals.
The post holder will join a team of 9 Consultant Community Paediatricians, 2 community SAS doctors, and one Speciality Doctor. Senior Allied Health professionals and clinical nurse specialists will also contribute to assessments and care for young people.
The department is developing the workforce including using sessional GPs for some aspects of community paediatric work as well as developing the clinical nurse specialist role to allow the consultants to focus on specialist community paediatric roles.

Main duties of the job
* Work in all aspects of Community Paediatrics based on experience and service priorities.
* Assess and manage children with neurodevelopmental concerns and safeguarding issues.
* Participate in the consultant-led Child Protection rota.
* Undertake health assessments for Looked After Children and provide written reports.
* Support and advise colleagues in clinical assessment and care of children and young people.
* Provide supervision to trainees, specialist doctors, clinical nurse specialists, and AHPs.
* Participate in clinical supervision and continuing professional development of medical staff.
* Collaborate with Community Paediatric services and Children's Community Services Directorate.
* Develop care pathways across acute and community services.
* Contribute to the development of Specialist Child Health Services.
* Liaise with other agencies on clinical and operational matters.
* Provide advice and signposting to other professionals about legal processes, research, and policy documents.
* Liaise with professional leads from other agencies, such as Education and Children's Social care.

Job responsibilities
Clinical Responsibilities
The post holder will work in all aspects of Community Paediatrics, suited to their experience and competencies and the priorities of service provision.
The post holder will undertake assessment and management of children with neurodevelopmental concerns and safeguarding.
Undertake neurodevelopmental assessments including for Autism and Social Communication Disorders.
Participate in the consultant-led Child Protection rota.
Undertake health assessments for Looked After Children and provide written reports as appropriate.
Support and advice colleagues in the clinical assessment and care of children and young people, whilst being clear about others personal clinical professional accountability.

To take part in clinical and educational supervision of post graduate trainees.

Clinical Audit And Clinical Governance
Participate in clinical audit, incident reporting and analysis and to ensure resulting actions are implemented.
Work closely with the Directorate, Patient and Public Involvement panels in relation to clinical and services developments as delegated.
Participate in ensuring NICE requirements are reviewed and implemented and monitored in the speciality areas.
To ensure clinical guidelines and protocols are adhered to by medical staff and updated on a regular basis.
Review clinical outcomes in designated area using external benchmarking data where appropriate, to identify and advise variances to the Clinical Director.
To keep fully informed about best practice in the speciality areas and ensure implications for practice changes are discussed with the Clinical Director.
To role model good practice for infection control to all members of the multidisciplinary team.
Continuing Professional Development
Attend relevant local, regional, and national continuing professional development activities to maintain competence.

Person Specification
Essential
* Medical degree, MBBS or equivalent
* Member of Fellow of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health or equivalent
* Full and Specialist registration with a licence to practise with the GMC or be eligible for registration within six months of interview
* Applicants that are UK trained must also be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview.
Desirable
* Grid Training in Community paediatrics
* MSc/Diploma in community child health or equivalent
Clinical experience Essential
* Comprehensive Training and experience in community paediatrics
* Evidence of training and experience gained obtaining CCT in Community Child Health (CCH) or if CCT in General Paediatrics, must be able to demonstrate equivalent competencies required for CCT in CCH have been achieved.
* At least 2 years' experience in Community Child Health including Neuro-developmental paediatrics, Safeguarding, Looked after children.
* Training and experience in the identification and management of suspected child abuse.
* Clinical experience in the field of safeguarding and substantial experience of the legislation relating to children and young people and the court process.
* Experience of working with vulnerable children and young people and families and children in challenging situations.
* Valid APLS and NLS training.
* Valid level 3 safeguarding training.
Desirable
* Training and experience in assessment of ADHD.
* Experience of lead role in an area of child health.

Clinical Audit Essential
