An exciting opportunity has arisen with the Urology Diagnostic Nursing Team at the Churchill Hospital, Oxford, to work as a Specialist Nurse covering maternity leave. This post is being offered at a Band 6/7 dependant on experience, for a period of 12 months.
The Urology Diagnostic Nursing Team provide a 2WW diagnostic service for patients referred with suspected bladder and suspected prostate cancer. We are committed to providing an excellent level of care and compassion for patients & their families and would like to meet you if you are too!
As a Specialist Nurse you will work alongside the current Nurse Practitioner team and as part of the wider multidisciplinary team. This includes the Faster Diagnostic Navigators, surgeons, the Uro-Oncology specialist nursing team, and the Benign nursing team. If you are new to urology this is a great opportunity to see the wide variety of roles we have to offer.
Your role will be varied and include Direct Access clinics for patients at the point of referral, MRI results clinics, triaging of referrals, post prostatectomy follow-up, and more!
Our team is based in Urology Outpatients. The service runs 8 am to 6 pm on Monday to Friday with Saturdays once a month.

Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will be expected to help guide patients referred with suspected prostate cancer through the initial part of their diagnostic pathway. You will work alongside the Faster Diagnostic Clinical Navigator (FDS) to triage referrals and undertake telephone clinics and decide on appropriate investigations. We are looking to develop some in-person clinics also.
You will request appropriate imaging and then undertake clinics to inform patients of their MRI results and make decisions regarding prostate biopsy.
You will run post-prostatectomy follow-up clinics, advising patients and facilitating patients moving onto Patient Led Follow Up.
You will be trained to undertake Transrectal Ultrasound measurement of the prostate.

* Use expert knowledge and clinical judgement to decide whether to refer patients for investigations and make diagnoses. Assist in triaging complex referrals on prostate and bladder suspected cancer pathways.
