Job overview
The post holder will work in Paediatric Histopathology at Manchester University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust on the Oxford Road Campus providing scientific support services to patients and customers. They will work alongside Biomedical Scientists and Consultant Histopathologists contributing to the day to day running of the department.
Working pattern is 7am-7pm Monday to Friday (in shifts).
Main duties of the job
* Take part in the day to day running of the department whilst rotating through the main laboratory and Immunohistochemistry.
* Become proficient in designated areas of diagnostic work within the department and provide a comprehensive and appropriate laboratory service to patients and staff.
* Remain competent in designated areas of the department and perform tasks accurately and in accordance with departmental standard operating procedures.
* Ensure all work is completed timely and to satisfactory standards and seek advice from senior staff when required.
* Maintain data integrity when enrolling samples on the laboratory information system following national and local guidelines.
* Liaise with clinical staff to ensure optimal service delivery.
* Monitor use of reagents and consumables and ensure stock levels are maintained to ensure continuous service.
* Assist in maintaining, calibrating and ensuring the appropriate quality control of highly complex laboratory equipment.
* Communicate results as appropriate.
* Contribute positively to the effectiveness and efficiency of the teams in which he/she works.

Person specification
Qualifications
* Foundation degree in Healthcare Science/ Certificate of Achievement Part 2/ Apprenticeship Level 4 or equivalent scientific qualification relevant to the post.
Experience and Knowledge
* Evidence of training and development within Histopathology.
* Demonstrate sufficient knowledge and skills to be able to train other staff.
* Evidence of using complex laboratory equipment.
* Understanding of Laboratory Health and Safety procedures and protocols.
Skills
* Able to communicate information both verbally and in writing in a clear and concise manner.
* Effective at prioritising competing workloads, using time management skills.
* Evidence of working as part of a team.
* Experience of Laboratory IT programmes for data entry and result entry.
