About the role
We are looking for a high-performing and motivated individual to join our Strategic Planning team to support Royal Mail's leadership across the full spectrum of strategic topics, including defining and reviewing our corporate strategy, driving analysis around key market/competitor changes, identifying value creation opportunities, and supporting the delivery of strategically important projects across the business. You will provide enthusiasm and inspire people through all levels of the business to act and embrace positive change and build a culture of high performance and a climate for success.
Reporting into the Head of Strategic Planning and CEO Office, this is a hybrid London-based role with regular travel required to Royal Mail's head office in Farringdon, London.
Key responsibilities
1. Strategic planning and execution:
Work in a small, dynamic team within the Strategic Planning and CEO Office, with direct interface into the CEO and excellent opportunities for professional growth and development.
Collaborate with Royal Mail's Executive Team to set, develop and refine Royal Mail's strategic objectives and create detailed plans to achieve them.
Engage with cross-functional stakeholders to identify, develop, and execute value creation opportunities, including revenue growth, cost reduction, and process optimisation.
Track and evaluate the progress of strategic projects, making changes as needed to stay aligned with company goals.
2. Quantitative and economic analysis:
Evaluate the financial impact of strategic initiatives and operational improvements through detailed quantitative and economic analysis.
Develop and use financial models and forecasting tools to support strategic planning and decision-making.
Analyse economic trends, market data, and financial metrics to provide insights and recommendations for strategic adjustments.
Prepare and present quantitative findings and economic analyses to senior leadership and other stakeholders.
3. Market and competitive analysis:
Perform comprehensive market research to understand industry dynamics, competitive landscape, and market trends.
Assess Royal Mail's competitive positioning and identify opportunities to enhance market position and competitive advantage.
Provide strategic insights and recommendations based on market and competitive analysis to inform decision-making.
About You
To truly excel in this role, you'll possess, and be able to evidence, the skills and experience listed below:
• Experience in strategy/management consulting (strong preference for McKinsey/Bain/BCG).
• A well-rounded consulting toolkit (analytical/conceptual problem-solving; top-down verbal/written communication; stakeholder management).
• Strong ownership with an ability to drive end-to-end delivery.
• Highly structured and organised.
• Highly motivated with significant drive to manage large and complex projects with autonomy, using senior stakeholder and relationship management skills.
