Specialty Doctor In Cardiothoracic Surgery

Entry Criteria for a Specialty Doctor:
A doctor appointed to this grade:
shall have full registration and a Licence to Practice with the General Medical Council (GMC);
And
1. shall have completed at least four years’ full-time postgraduate training (or its equivalent gained on a less than full-time or flexible basis) at least two of which will be in a specialty training programme or specialty registrar locum appointment for training (LAT);
Or
2. shall have equivalent training, experience or competencies, either in the UK or overseas.

3. shall be registered and have a Licence to Practice with the General Dental Council (GDC);
And
4. shall have completed four years’ full-time postgraduate training (or its equivalent gained on a less than full-time or flexible basis) since first obtaining registration, including adequate experience in the relevant specialty;

5. shall have equivalent training, experience or competencies, either in the UK or overseas.

This post is for a full time Speciality Doctor in Cardiothoracic Surgery in Lothian University Hospitals Division. The post holder will join 7 Consultant Surgeons (2 full time Cardiac Surgeons, 2 full time Thoracic Surgeons and 3 Cardiothoracic Surgeons) providing care within a large major teaching hospital for the University of Edinburgh, covering a full range of clinical/medical services and containing a number of special units. The Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh is nationally and internationally well renowned for offering excellent training in cardio-thoracic surgery.
The Edinburgh Cardio-Thoracic Unit provides a regional service for approximately 1.5 million populations in Lothian, Fife, Tayside and Borders Areas. The work of the unit is carried out at the Royal Infirmary Cardiothoracic Unit, which deals with all open-heart surgery, surgery of the great vessels, trauma and thoracic surgery including pulmonary and some oesophageal surgery.
