Paralegal - Commercial Contracts

Capital One is excited to have a new opportunity within its dynamic UK Legal team for a paralegal to advise on supplier and other commercial contracts. To complement our existing Commercial & Technology team within Legal, we are looking for a strong team player with great communication skills, contract drafting and negotiating skills and commercial acumen. Reporting to senior legal counsel, your role will focus on providing legal advice on contracts between Capital One and third parties. We are looking for someone with enthusiasm who is prepared to bring their voice and ambition to support the team and help our business succeed.
What you'll do
1. Prepare and negotiate contractual arrangements, including services agreements, outsourcing agreements, software licences, digital marketing agreements, terms and conditions of purchase, variation agreements, termination agreements and renewals, following Capital One’s precedents.
2. Advise on legal risks in relation to third party contracting, including review of supplier terms and escalation to senior legal counsel.
3. Be responsible for progressing requests for contractual changes from start to finish, ensuring relevant business policies and procedures are followed and involving or escalating to other stakeholders where appropriate.
4. Enable and assist with contract signing and storage electronically, through Capital One’s systems.
5. Support senior legal counsel on major commercial transactions.
6. Develop and maintain great working relationships with supplier and sourcing managers, business leads and risk stakeholders, in Capital One UK and where appropriate within our US parent company.
7. Legal research and advice on relevant areas of law, including on commercial contracts, IT, IP, data protection and financial services regulation specific to third parties, supported by senior counsel or relevant specialists where necessary.
8. Identify and assess the impact of new laws related to contracting and train other business areas where appropriate.
9. Manage your workload in a timely and effective manner and proactively communicate to stakeholders on progress.

Where and how you'll work
This is a permanent position based in our Nottingham office. We have a hybrid working model which gives you flexibility to work from our offices and from home. We’re big on collaboration and connection, so you’ll be based in our Nottingham office 3 days a week on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.
