Probationary Period
All new staff to the Trust will be subject to a standard 6 month probationary period, the details of which will duly follow in your contract of employment.

Agile and Flexible Working

We are looking for a dynamic and motivated leader in our Emergency Department at South Warwickshire University Foundation Trust. We are expanding and diversifying our current senior team to welcome allied healthcare professionals.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will contribute to the development of the Emergency Department team and support the Head of Nursing, Clinical Lead and Department Management in the delivery of a consistently high quality and cost-effective service.
Key Responsibilities:
1. To provide clinical and professional leadership and support all non-medical staff in the department, ensuring that clinical practice is based on current and best evidence.
2. Keep an up to date personal profile, in line with revalidation requirements in maintaining NMC/HCPC registration.
3. Ensure that the department's philosophy is in line with the principles of clinical governance and that all staff understand its significance to practice.
4. In conjunction with the department management ensure that KPI's, and Infection Prevention standards are maintained each month.
5. To report any accidents or incidents vis DATIX incident reporting system and/or appropriate registered professional, ensuring an open and transparent culture.
Clinical:
1. To participate in the setting and maintaining of high standards of evidenced based care.
2. To supervise and evaluate work of all nursing staff.
3. Promote patient and carers involvement in care planning, delivery and evaluations, ensuring junior staff develop the necessary skills to do this. Implement and support communication systems to keep patients and their relatives/families informed of treatment and progress. Undertake audits at regular intervals to maintain standards of record keeping.
4. Supervises and monitors junior staff in developing the necessary skills to identify care priorities and address them in a pertinent and timely manner, seeking advice where appropriate.
5. Communicates and interacts with patients, carers and staff in a non-judgemental way, demonstrating mutual respect and trust utilising a variety of communication skills.
6. To ensure patients and relatives needs are met in a courteous, helpful and compassionate manner.
7. To liaise with other agencies and professionals to maintain good service provision.
8. Maintain effective relationships between the department and the multi-disciplinary team.
9. To maintain accurate and comprehensive records of patient care in line with trust policy and NMC/HCPC.
10. Co-ordinate clinical activities within the department and have responsibility for shift management.
11. Act as a clinical leader and role model, sharing expertise with colleagues.
12. To ensure safety and confidentiality of patient and staff information.
Managerial:
1. To work with department management to ensure that all staff sickness is monitored and that the Trusts sickness and absence policy is adhered to.
2. Ensure the departments equipment is serviced properly and timely to maintain continuity of service at all times.
3. Act as role model and mentor to students including the setting of action plans where necessary.
4. Adheres to the systems for recording clinical incidents ensuring accurate and timely completion of Trust incident forms. Monitors the practice of other staff.
5. Investigate complaints and untoward incidents in accordance with Trust policies and procedures. Provide statements accurately, timely and professionally. Support department management in improving systems to prevent recurrence.
6. Ensure the department clinical procedures and protocols are understood and adhered to by all staff. These should represent best possible practice and reflect Trust and National strategy for the management of emergency and acute patients.
7. Contribute to the recruitment and selection of quality staff for the department, identifying future job requirements for profiling to compliment the department team and to participate in induction programmes, mentorship and Trust recruitment open and assessment days.
8. In conjunction with department management facilitate staff development by achieving department objectives using the principles of IPR using KSF and developing personal development plans for all staff. Monitor staff performance and report progress to the department management at regular intervals.
9. Contribute to the planning, organisation and evaluation of work, ensuring adequate induction of new staff including effective preceptorship for newly qualified nurses and staff new to the speciality of emergency medicine.
10. Review the standard of department documentation at regular intervals, benchmarking performance against NMC/HCPC guidelines.
11. Support Clinical Governance within the department by utilising: - Risk Management, Education/training, Clinical Supervision, Clinical Audit and effective best practice.
Education:
