Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Foundation Trust (GOSH) is a national centre of excellence in the provision of specialist children's health care, currently delivering the widest range of specialist care of any children's hospital in the UK. It has the largest paediatric Haematology and Oncology centre in Europe.
An opportunity has arisen in the Department of Haematology’s Specialist Integrated Haematological Malignancy Diagnostic Service (Molecular section) for a suitably qualified Specialist Healthcare Scientist. This is an excellent post for an enthusiastic and scientifically innovative individual.
You must hold a HCPC registration and ideally have experience in either a Haematology or Molecular laboratory. You must have a broad range of knowledge and experience in a clinical laboratory setting. Full training will be provided in the specialist area of paediatric Molecular Haematology.
The successful candidate will be part of the team running clinical diagnostic assays for patients with haematological malignancies and patients who underwent haematopoietic stem cell transplantation, gene therapy or CAR-T cell therapy. All work is performed under the supervision of the Laboratory Managers and Senior Healthcare Scientists.
Technical, Scientific and Professional Responsibilities
1. Undertake laboratory techniques in line with department standard operating procedures.
2. Prioritisation of diagnostic and follow up samples for analysis.
3. Analysis and interpretation of molecular results for leukaemia, HSCT and Gene Therapy patients.
4. Good communication with Flow Cytometry and other Haematology departments to inform them of additional analytical requirements.
5. Takes part in the production, review and amendment of Standard Operating procedures.
6. To carry out all laboratory investigations to a high standard of technical excellence.
7. To ensure analytical accuracy and confidentiality of results observing the Data Protection.
8. Efficient use of the Laboratory Information Management System.
9. To operate and maintain (where appropriate) laboratory equipment in prescribed manner.
10. To undertake method and laboratory instrument evaluation and produce required reports.
11. Participate in staff annual Performance and Development Review (PDR).
12. To participate in Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
13. To attend appropriate seminars, lectures and training sessions as indicated by PDR, with prior agreement of line manager.
14. To maintain registration with relevant professional bodies as required.
