Urology outpatients is a small dynamic team that provide care for patients with varied urological concerns including diagnostics, andrology, endo urology, functional urology, cancer services. We are a tertiary referral center for urology in the South West. We provide urology services at the main Southmead Hospital site and in Weston Super Mare hospital site.
Deliver clinical and therapeutic care to patients as required within set protocols/policies and within the scope of the Assistant Practitioner or Nursing Associate remit.
You will have the opportunity to assist with research, assist with new procedures and become a competent practitioner that manage their own clinics. We aim to provide high quality patient centered care for all our patients.

• Carry out direct patient care without direct supervision e.g. Trial without catheter clinic, Flows clinic, clean intermittent catheterisation, catheter change, telephone clinics.
• Obtain Specimens and Undertake Point of Care testing and act on results.
• Undertake dressings
• Undertake venepuncture and cannulation
• Answer phone calls and provide advice re health needs or appointments.
• Book appointments and print clinic lists and appointment letters.
Urology Outpatients and Diagnostics is a small, dynamic team of nurses who not only run clinician-led clinics but also a large amount of Nurse-led activity in this Outpatient department. We work alongside a much wider and growing multi disciplinary team including scientists and radiographers.
We predominantly care for patients with urology conditions this include continence, urinary tract symptoms and infections, cancer of prostate, testicular, penile and bladder. Pre and post operative education and support for patient having urological procedures. We offer lithotripsy for kidney and uretic stones, changes of complex catheters, Catheter removal(TWOC), erectile dysfunction, diagnostic procedures such as flexible cystoscopies and prostate biopsy's, urodynamics including video Urodynamics and urinary flows. Bladder installations for bladder cancer, urinary tract infection and bladder pain. We participate in clinical trials and research.
After a period of training and supervision if required, you will be expected to:
• To assist with flexible cystoscopies including stent removal, catheter change, TULA laser and other procedures.
• To carry out ‘flows’ clinic and TWOC (trial without catheter) clinic autonomously.
• Enhanced recovery education clinic and telephone follow-up calls post patient discharge.
• Assist practitioners with Prostate Biopsy clinics.
• To carry out catheter change clinic including urethral and suprapubic changes with minimal support.
• To carry out CIC (intermittent clean-catheterisation) teaching and follow up calls.
• Carry out pre and post procedural telephone clinics.
• Confident to work independently and as part of the team.
