An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, self-motivated and forward-thinking Staff Nurse to work within the Discharge Lounge based at Nevill Hall Hospital. Applicants need to be professional, caring, friendly, compassionate, and have a degree of flexibility. The ability to work independently and as part of a team is essential for this post. This role ensures patients' discharges are expedited by transferring from their ward to a more appropriate area. The service identifies appropriate patients, liaises with their wards, and transfers the patients to the discharge lounge, ensuring all belongings are with the patient and all medication prescribed and checked as well as transport requirements discussed.
Main duties of the job
The lounge provides a warm caring environment in which medically fit patients can safely wait for discharge home or transfer to an alternative setting. Part of the role is to promote and identify patients that are suitable to transfer to the Lounge and to support and encourage ward staff to utilize it as well. Our main goal is to free up bed capacity at the earliest opportunity within the health board in order to aid patient flow from the front door but most importantly to enable a safe discharge for our patients.
