Senior/Principal Engineer - Mechanical We are currently seeking a talented Senior/Principal Mechanical Engineer to join a dynamic engineering team working on a range of exciting water and wastewater projects. This role, based primarily in the Essex & Suffolk region, offers the opportunity to contribute to a programme valued at approximately £280M. The successful candidate will initially travel to other regions to integrate into the companys culture and support the growth of their career. In this role, you will be responsible for producing complex, cost-effective mechanical design solutions that meet project specifications and ensure successful construction and commissioning. Working collaboratively with other disciplines, you will help deliver high-quality engineering solutions while maintaining efficiency and meeting project deadlines and budgets. Key Responsibilities: - Report directly to the Design Managers, Technical Discipline Lead, Regional Discipline Lead, and Engineering Manager. - Create detailed mechanical design layouts that align with specifications and ensure effective construction and commissioning. - Oversee and check all design deliverables, including specifications, schedules, drawings, and calculations. - Collaborate with other disciplines to develop 3D models for site/plant designs. - Ensure standard practices and designs are used wherever possible for efficiency. - Deliver design outputs within agreed timescales and budgets. - Coordinate design outputs across all technical disciplines and maintain competitiveness. - Provide cost estimates and feedback to the Proposals department. - Foster relationships with construction staff and supply chain representatives to enhance buildability and supply chain efficiency. - Develop, monitor, and improve departmental procedures and processes. - Maintain comprehensive files and records throughout the duration of contracts. - Lead Operability and Maintenance workshops alongside clients to review designs for operability and maintainability. - Promote a culture focused on customer satisfaction as the key to achieving overall project success. - Assist in the development of staff and ensure a safe working environment. - Minimise waste across departmental activities and ensure all designs meet environmental standards. - Adhere to CDM 2015 regulations and ensure all health and safety requirements are met in the design process. Essential Qualifications & Experience: - Strong knowledge of engineering principles, including structures, materials, hydraulics, and environmental engineering. - Extensive experience in water and sewage treatment systems. - Experience managing teams in designing mechanical aspects of water and sewage treatment plants. - Membership in a professional institution or Chartered status is preferred. - Relevant engineering degree (Mechanical or related discipline). - Ability to rationalise designs and optimise plant layouts for cost efficiency. - Broad understanding of mechanical, process, and electrical engineering, as well as project management. - In-depth knowledge of industry standards, including BS, WIMES, BSRIA, and regulatory requirements (PUWER, LOLER, PSSR 2000, etc.). - Familiarity with CDM 2015 regulations and related health and safety guidelines. - Strong communication skills to present technical proposals clearly and confidently. - Proficient computer skills and a valid driving license.
