An opportunity for a Principal Mechanical Engineer to join a successful international manufacturing company with a proven track record of engineering innovation and part of a multi-$bn group with an exciting future.
The Principal Mechanical Engineer role combines hands-on mechanical engineering design (70-80%) in a dynamic product development environment alongside leadership of a small team of three engineers and is a great chance to further develop/or pick up team management responsibilities.
The Opportunity
Linx Printing Technologies (www.linxglobal.com), a Veralto company, is a leading B2B technology provider of industrial CIJ printing equipment for consumption date and batch coding of products and packaging across manufacturing industries.
The Principal Mechanical Engineer will primarily involve hands-on engineering design of the next generation of printers (sheet metal, plastic moulding, machining parts, tooling etc) whilst also operating as the technical authority/project manager and team leader.
Reporting to the Senior Hardware Engineering Manager, this hybrid role is based 4 days a week at the HQ in St. Ives (PE27 5JL) and is a great opportunity to develop the team, use industrial design and SolidWorks/Creo experience to solve problems, and build relationships across the diverse, and highly collaborative Engineering departments.
Your key responsibilities:
* Accelerate new CIJ printer product development using industrial design, incorporating mass production techniques using plastic mouldings, sheet metal work and designs for ease of production assembly. These robust systems include integration with complex mechanical, electronics and fluid systems to meet our customers’ high expectations
* Manage and motivate the mechanical team, implementing and driving critical thinking, demonstrating and developing technical competence with speed
* Meet agreed project KPIs, ensuring alignment to processes including design reviews, product verification and validation programs
* Engage across departments from a mechanical perspective, whilst meeting agreed outcomes including quality, performance, time to market, sustainment and overall product cost
* Continuously improve systems and processes across the business in conjunction with the wider team, developing new technologies and standard toolsets (CAD, PDM, FEA etc) to help reduce design time, right first time, whilst also bringing new insights and engagement to Linx
* Technical specialist on all mechanical engineering matters, including appreciation of the regulatory requirements for machine safety in a global market, whilst ensuring and maintaining a professional and safe working environment
The Ideal Candidate:
* Hands-on Principal Mechanical Engineer (with team leadership experience/or a keenness to develop this), who has developed industrial components and products in commercial environments
* Detailed knowledge of mechanical engineering from first principles, sophisticated system integration, and analytical skills. A genuine interest in engineering with an inquiring mind that enjoys problem solving
* Design of products using CAE tools, integrating solid, fluid and thermo mechanics, electronics, and software. Experienced in SolidWorks, Creo, with additional use of Adobe Illustrator and Windchill an advantage
* Highly collaborative, self-disciplined to execute standard processes covering design, review, verification, and risk management. Maintains consistently high standards and unwavering ethics, and continually seeks to improve performance
* Degree in Mechanical/Aerospace/Automotive Engineering, or time-served experience in a relevant industry
