The Surgical Assessment Unit at George Eliot Hospital is looking to recruit a Clinical Support Worker.
We are looking to recruit enthusiastic, positive thinking, committed and experienced Clinical Support Workers who have excellent communication skills to join this clinical support role within our existing Surgical Assessment Team.

Main duties and Responsibilities:
* Assist in the care of patients each shift under the supervision of a registered nurse delivering personal and clinical care to include:
* Personal care, hygiene and elimination
* Nutritional needs
* Skin and pressure area care
* Assist in the delivery of clinical care and associated activities in line with appropriate standards and guidelines.
* Document care in patients records and ensure countersigned by a registered nurse.
* Use accurate, clear and concise documentation written or electronically.
* Contribute to the development and delivery of a high-quality, cost-effective service.
* Contribute to the planning and completion of holistic assessment under supervision.
* Liaise and work with all members of the multi-disciplinary team understanding their roles.
* Anticipate the needs of the patients to ensure comfort, safety and dignity at all times.
* Participate in daily handovers and meetings.
* Maintain confidentiality regarding patients, relatives and colleagues.
* Ensure tidiness and cleanliness of patient areas and equipment.
* Ensure patient trolleys and examination couches are properly cleaned between patient use.
Clinical:
* With appropriate training, gain skills, knowledge and competence to undertake the following:
* Record temperature, pulse, blood pressure, respiratory rate and oxygen saturations.
* Complete NEWS documentation and escalate results to appropriate registered nurse/practitioner.
* Monitor fluid balance charts.
* Assist with the removal of urinal catheters and collection of specimens.
* Perform venepuncture, cannulation, ECG, blood collection, and care of a patient with a nasogastric tube.
Communication Skills:
* Work as a member of the Surgical Assessment Team, establishing effective communication across the multi-disciplinary team.
* Establish professional relationships with patients and carers, respecting views, beliefs and culture.
* Report to the senior nurse on duty in a timely manner regarding patient care and treatment plans.
* Act as a patient advocate and be aware of incident reporting and safeguarding concerns.
Education, Training and Information:
* Maintain professional standards in clinical and non-clinical activities specific to the Surgical Assessment Unit.
* Work within the boundaries of competence, not undertaking activities that have not been previously agreed.
* Participate in the appraisal process and keep up to date with statutory and mandatory training.
