Role - Group ESG Manager
Location - Home-based role - some travel required to client sites and Mecsia offices (based in Berkshire, Cambridgeshire, West Sussex, Kent and Gloucestershire)

We have been in Private Equity ownership since Rockpool’s initial acquisition of CMSL in 2020 and have since grown to c.800 full-time employees of which c.400 are engineers. We were acquired by Synova earlier in 2024. Synova will support our ambitious growth strategy, which is focused on continuing to win market share by delivering the highest level of service to clients, supplemented by strategic acquisitions which expand the group’s technical service capabilities.
Job Overview
The Group ESG Manager will sit at group level, working closely with each of the individual business units, and will be responsible for developing and executing a comprehensive ESG strategy that maximises ROI and aligns with Mecsia’s business goals and values. This role will involve establishing policies, setting targets, and driving initiatives that enhance environmental stewardship, social responsibility, and governance practices. The successful candidate will collaborate with various internal and external stakeholders to communicate and embed ESG considerations into all aspects of operations and culture.
Key Responsibilities
1. Strategic ESG Leadership
1. Develop and implement a robust ESG strategy aligned to the group's mission, vision, and business objectives.
2. Identify key ESG risks and opportunities, integrate them into the group's strategic planning and decision-making processes.
3. Drive social responsibility, community engagement, and employee well-being initiatives.
2. Environmental Management:
1. Oversee initiatives aimed at reducing the company's environmental impact, including carbon footprint reduction, energy efficiency, waste management, and resource conservation.
2. Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and industry standards.
3. Promote the use of renewable energy and sustainable practices across the organisation.
3. Social Responsibility:
1. Drive initiatives that enhance social responsibility, including diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programmes, community engagement, and employee well-being.
2. Lead efforts in stakeholder engagement, including customers, employees, communities, and suppliers.
4. Governance & Risk Management:
1. Establish and enforce ESG policies and frameworks, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and industry standards.
2. Set measurable ESG targets and KPIs and monitor progress toward achieving these goals.
3. Oversee the management of ESG-related risks and ensure compliance with global ESG regulations and standards.
5. Reporting & Communication:
1. Lead the preparation of ESG reports, including sustainability reports, disclosures, and communications to stakeholders.
2. Work closely with Marketing to communicate the company’s ESG initiatives and performance to stakeholders.
3. Promote the company’s ESG achievements through various internal and external communication channels.
6. Stakeholder Engagement:
1. Engage with a wide range of stakeholders to understand their expectations and incorporate their feedback into the ESG strategy.
2. Lead on the ESG section of pitches/presentations to prospective clients.
3. Collaborate with internal departments to ensure ESG goals are properly communicated and embedded across the firm.
7. Team Leadership & Development:
1. Build, lead, and mentor a high-performing ESG community across the Group.
2. Foster a culture of continuous improvement and innovation in ESG practices.
3. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to embed ESG considerations across all business areas.
Qualifications
1. A bachelor’s or master’s degree in environmental management, sustainability or another related field is a plus but not required.
2. 5 years of experience in ESG, sustainability, or corporate social responsibility roles, preferably within a multi-company group and within the building services sector.
3. Professional certifications or memberships to professional bodies (e.g., IEMA) related to ESG are a plus.
