Sister/Charge Nurse – Pain Management Service

You will work as a member of the Pain Management Team, contributing to the delivery of the pain management service across the Trust.
This will include advising clinical teams, GPs, Rowcroft Hospice; Trust-wide education for clinical staff; reporting incidents to improve service and patient care; collecting audit data to inform practice/service change; and supporting the Pain Management lead nurse in the development and improvement of the service.
You will assist in the development and maintenance of the Pain Management Service across the Trust. The role will encompass all aspects of pain management and interlink closely with the outpatient pain service.
Main duties of the job
* To act as a specialist resource on all aspects of pain management and related symptom control, using research to underpin clinical practice.
* To assist, advise, and support clinical teams Trust-wide to provide optimum pain management for inpatients.
* To evaluate the effectiveness/safety of clinical interventions for pain management and adjust accordingly.
* The timely assessment, implementation of plans of care, and management/review of patients requiring pain management.
* Undertake and run clinics which involve follow-up and review of, e.g., TENS/modulators; Patient pain diaries; Lidocaine infusion service; outpatient pain clinics: this list is not exhaustive.
* Deputise for the Clinical Nurse Specialist in their absence, and support the Lead Nurse within the service.
* To assist in the development, organisation, and delivery of the pain management educational strategy Trust-wide.
* Act as a positive role model for other Trust staff and students by maintaining good leadership and communication.
* Promote awareness and compliance amongst colleagues regarding Trust policies, procedures, guidelines, and standards.
* Contribute and participate in policy, practice, and service change arising from audits, research, complaints, etc.
* Develop new skills and knowledge pertaining to pain management.

Torbay's nurse-led Pain Management Service combines Inpatient and Outpatient Pain Services. There is a fantastic opportunity to join our dynamic, cheerful, and forward-thinking team to further develop the service.
The Pain Service covers both the inpatient and chronic outpatient services within Torbay and is part of the Critical Care and Anaesthetic departments. It provides clinical support and advice Trust-wide in the management of patients' pain.
There are close links with a variety of educational initiatives within the Trust and the successful candidate is expected to continue and develop these. They will work within the wider pain management team.
The trust is committed to patient safety and improving the patients' experience. The post holder will contribute to the implementation of national, regional, and local strategies in pain management, working collaboratively with colleagues to ensure best practice within the field of Pain Management.

Person Specification
Qualifications and Training
* BSc degree in Nursing or health-related subject or equivalent experience.
* Evidence of recent professional development.
* Mentorship degree module or equivalent.
* Teaching qualification or evidence of equivalent teaching experience.
* Acceptance and Commitment Therapy skills/qualification.
Knowledge and experience
* Understanding of the changing NHS and clinical governance.
* Ability to manage own case/workload.
* Evidence of an interest in Pain Management.
* Good understanding and knowledge of acute, chronic, complex, and the psychological aspects of pain management.
* ePain Management certificate: e-learning for healthcare.
* Awareness of RCN Pain KSF for Pain Nursing.
* Non-medical prescribing qualification or willingness to complete and pass this qualification.
Specific Skills
* Clinical experience in the acute care setting.
* Experience of teaching in practice or formal lecturing.
* Ability to work independently and make decisions relating to patients' plan of care.
* Critical care/HDU/Recovery experience.
* ALS.
* Ward management experience.
* Previous experience in pain management.
