The Chair will provide forward thinking leadership to guide the strategic direction of the Bowls Development Alliance (BDA) and shape its operations.
With a focus on governance, oversight, and performance, you will ensure the organisation delivers on its strategic priorities. You will bring experience in establishing and enforcing robust governance procedures, ideally gained in a senior public service role, non-profit leadership, or a listed company.
As Chair, you will challenge and hold the executive team to account, ensuring high standards of performance, ethical conduct, and value for money in managing public funds.
Key Responsibilities:
* Provide effective leadership to the Board, ensuring its efficient operation, facilitating productive discussions, and encouraging collaboration among members.
* Oversee the development and implementation of the BDA’s strategic priorities, ensuring alignment with its vision to place bowls at the heart of every community.
* Build strategic alliances and manage relationships with key stakeholders, including National Governing Bodies, and other partners, inspiring confidence in the BDA’s work.
* Champion good governance, financial accountability, and the effective delivery of programs and initiatives that grow the sport of bowls.
* Provide support to the Managing Director, conducting annual appraisals and serving as the key point of contact between the MD and the Board, ensuring effective communication and collaboration.
Essential Qualities:
* A passion for community driven sports and a commitment to growing the sport of bowls.
* Proven leadership experience in governance, strategic oversight, and stakeholder management.
* Excellent communication and influencing skills, with the ability to build partnerships and inspire confidence among diverse audiences.
While knowledge and experience of bowls are not essential, a genuine enthusiasm for sport and its ability to bring communities together is vital. This is a unique opportunity to shape the future of the BDA and ensure the sport thrives as an inclusive, accessible, and sustainable activity for all. The role of Chair attracts an honorarium of £3,200 per annum.
