The Role:
As our commercial team continues to grow, we are looking to speak with Trainee/Assistant Quantity Surveyors to join us in our Yorkshire division. In return, we offer an attractive remuneration package alongside various other great benefits detailed on the “What we offer” tab on our careers page.
The Assistant Quantity Surveyor will report to the Managing Quantity Surveyor and provide support and guidance throughout the lifecycle of a construction project.
What you will be doing:
1. Assist and report on and control all commercial and financial aspects of projects and contracts.
2. Providing commercial expertise for projects to maximise returns by working within robust procedures to support the Project QS.
3. Produce and send enquiries to subcontractors inviting them to tender and engage with the supply chain.
4. Receive and analyse quotations, liaising with Contracts Managers and Site Agents regarding price, proven history, availability etc.
5. Produce and process formal subcontract documents, certifying the interim/final payments and final subcontract account.
6. Monitor income and expenditure on contracts e.g., interim/final applications for payment / final accounts / payments for late monies etc., liaising where necessary with the relevant people e.g., engineers, clients etc.
7. Produce relevant monthly reports for the Commercial Manager e.g., cost and value comparisons, turnover forecasts etc., ensuring information is complete and accurate.
8. Contribute to and attend financial and progress meetings with the client engineers and subcontractors as required.
Who we are looking for:
1. Proven background in a Trainee or Assistant QS role working within similar industries to GMI.
2. Exceptional relationship building skills, self-motivated and proactive commercial awareness and understanding of the construction process.
3. Computer literate with the ability to use Microsoft packages i.e., Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams.
4. Willingness and ability to learn new technologies.
