Position Overview
Crux is looking for an IT Manager to lead our IT team, ensuring our technical infrastructure runs smoothly and securely. This role is pivotal in supporting our teams to deliver best-in-class consultancy services.
As our IT Manager, you will oversee IT strategy, manage our IT team and third-party providers, and drive continuous improvement across our systems. You will ensure compliance, cyber security, and software management while maintaining a resilient IT infrastructure that supports our growth in both the UK and the US.
We are looking for someone who has a passion for technology, a friendly, approachable manner who is always willing to go the extra mile to support the team. You must be a self-starter who is able to multi-task, maintaining our existing systems and processes whilst driving continuous improvement to solve new and existing business problems.
Principal Responsibilities
IT Infrastructure Leadership
* Proactively manage, maintain, and support Crux’s IT hardware and infrastructure, ensuring high availability and robustness.
* Research and implement new technologies and software/hardware enhancements to ensure the best fit, value, and future-proofing for the business.
* Review and renew software subscriptions and maintenance agreements.
* Monitor and analyse software license usage, ensuring compliance and cost-efficiency.
* Support and administer user access for key software libraries (e.g., Abaqus, SolidWorks, Windchill, Creo, CETOL).
Compliance & Security
* Oversee IT compliance, including data, information, and cyber security management.
* Maintain certifications such as Cyber Essentials, ensuring compliance with all necessary frameworks.
* Ensure compliance with Quality Management Systems (ISO9001 & ISO13485), updating IT-related Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), business continuity plans, and other documentation as required.
* Respond to customer information requests promptly and accurately.
Strategy & Business Development
* Develop and implement IT strategy in collaboration with the Head of Operations, Quality, and Directors.
* Compile and present business cases for proposed IT and infrastructure changes to senior management, aligning IT solutions with business objectives.
* Provide regular updates on IT and infrastructure performance, reporting against objectives (OKRs).
* Run a Quarterly IT Strategy Meeting to evaluate progress, prioritise initiatives, and align efforts for the upcoming quarter.
Team Leadership & Development
* Recruit, develop, and engage the IT team, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture.
* Line manage and mentor the IT team, ensuring adherence to best practices and continuous professional development.
* Ensure compliance with Health and Safety and Quality Management policies to maintain a safe working environment.
Project Management
* Lead IT infrastructure projects, ensuring timely delivery and alignment with business goals.
* Oversee onboarding/offboarding activities, conducting internal training and facilitating third-party training sessions.
* Manage IT infrastructure growth, particularly in alignment with Crux’s expansion in both the UK and the US.
Third-party Management
* Monitor and manage third-party IT providers, reviewing and escalating tickets as necessary to ensure timely resolution of issues.
* Liaise with and manage relationships with software and IT infrastructure suppliers, ensuring that service levels and expectations are met.
Continuous Improvement
* Actively support Crux’s continuous development by proposing improvements and solutions that enhance IT infrastructure, security, and operations.
* Ensure that all processes and systems are optimised to meet the evolving needs of the business.
What We’re Looking For
Essential
* Bachelor’s degree in a related field (e.g., Information Technology, Computer Science).
* Proven experience in IT management.
* Strong technical knowledge of IT infrastructure, hardware, and software.
* Experience managing third-party IT providers and internal IT teams.
* Familiarity with software licensing, compliance, and cyber security frameworks.
* Ability to develop and implement IT strategies aligned with business objectives.
* Expertise in network design, advanced configuration of routers, switches, firewalls, and VPNs.
* Strong understanding of cybersecurity principles, including intrusion detection, encryption, and compliance.
* Experience managing large-scale server environments and virtualization technologies (e.g. Scale Hypervisor).
* Experience with cloud services (e.g., Microsoft Azure) and their integration with on-premise infrastructure.
* Strong problem-solving skills and ability to handle complex system issues proactively.
* Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
Desirable
* Experience in a consultancy or professional services environment.
* Knowledge of ISO9001 & ISO13485 quality management systems.
* Understanding of IT risk management and reporting at board level.
* Microsoft Expert certifications.
* Azure Solutions Architect, CompTIA Security+, or equivalent security certification.
* CCNA certification.
