Job Overview
South Central Fleet Services Ltd is looking for Fleet Engineers to join our team at our workshop facility in Didcot, maintaining vehicles on behalf of South Central Ambulance Service. This is an exciting time to join our team and be an integral part of ensuring ambulances are available to support patients. The workshop is open 7 days a week with shifts covering the working hours on a rotation basis. We have hours available from 15 hours to full-time (37.5 hours).
Our fleet engineers perform a vital and challenging role to support the ambulance service. This involves maintaining and repairing specialist vehicles and equipment to the highest standards while ensuring maximum levels of vehicle availability at all times. The role offers a unique opportunity to maintain a diverse range of vehicles and ancillary equipment such as tail-lifts, stretchers, air lines, and advanced electronic components.
Main Duties of the Job
1. Carry out maintenance and repairs of ambulances and other vehicles as specified by SCFS Ltd to the required standards.
2. Attend the scenes of breakdowns for repairs, ensuring safety guidelines are followed.
3. Prepare new vehicles for service and old vehicles for disposal.
4. Maintain records relating to the maintenance and repair of vehicles and equipment.
5. Ensure health and safety is prioritized, reporting any hazards or accidents immediately.
6. Follow security procedures.
7. Attend training courses related to vehicle maintenance and repair.
8. Make decisions on vehicle repairs in the absence of the Fleet Supervisor.
9. Participate in the Duty Mechanic standby rota system.
10. Fully participate in all income generation work relevant to the Fleet maintenance operation.
Working for Our Organisation
South Central Fleet Services Ltd is a wholly owned subsidiary of South Central Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust, responsible for the delivery and maintenance of vehicles to the trust.
Salary: Circa £37,755 pa depending on experience, plus OTE excess £45k pa with overtime.
Holiday entitlement: 25 days per annum (based on full-time hours) plus bank holidays.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* City and Guilds Motor Vehicle Craft studies parts 1, 2 & 3 or Motor Vehicle Technicians qualification or BTEC equivalents.
* Full Driving Licence.
Knowledge
* Relevant workshop experience involving all aspects of vehicle maintenance and repair.
Skills
* Organised and methodical.
* Ability to work on own initiative.
* Excellent communication skills, verbal and written.
