Job Description Job Specification: Operations Manager Job Title: Operations Manager Location: County Tyrone Department: Operations Reports To: General Manager / Director of Operations Job Summary: The Heavy Industry Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the heavy industry manufacturing facility. This role involves ensuring production efficiency, maintaining safety standards, managing staff, and coordinating with other departments to meet organizational goals. Key Responsibilities: Operational Management: Oversee all aspects of the production process, including planning, scheduling, and coordination of resources. Ensure efficient and effective utilization of resources to meet production targets and quality standards. Monitor production metrics and KPIs, implementing corrective actions when necessary. Safety and Compliance: Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations. Develop and enforce safety policies and procedures to reduce accidents and incidents. Conduct regular safety audits and risk assessments. Team Management: Lead, coach, and develop a team of supervisors, engineers, and operators. Conduct performance reviews, provide feedback, and set development goals for team members. Foster a positive and collaborative work environment. Quality Control: Ensure products meet quality standards and customer specifications. Implement quality control processes and continuous improvement initiatives. Address and resolve quality issues in a timely manner. Budget and Cost Control: Develop and manage the operations budget, including labor, materials, and equipment. Monitor expenses and implement cost-saving measures without compromising quality or safety. Prepare and present financial and operational reports to senior management. Process Improvement: Identify opportunities for process optimization and efficiency improvements. Lead projects focused on lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, and other process improvement methodologies. Implement new technologies and best practices to enhance productivity. Collaboration and Communication: Coordinate with other departments such as Maintenance, Engineering, Quality Assurance, and Supply Chain. Ensure clear and effective communication across the organization. Represent the operations department in cross-functional meetings and projects. Strategic Planning: Contribute to the development of long-term operational strategies. Analyze market trends, production data, and other factors to inform decision-making. Align operational activities with the company's strategic objectives. Qualifications: Education: Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Industrial Management, or a related field. A Master's degree or MBA is preferred. Experience: Minimum of 10 years of experience in heavy industry operations, with at least 5 years in a managerial role. Skills: Strong leadership and team management abilities. Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills. Proficiency in using ERP systems and production management software. Knowledge of lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, and other process improvement methodologies. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Financial acumen and budget management experience. Physical Requirements: Ability to work in a manufacturing environment, including walking, standing, and climbing. Willingness to work extended hours and be on-call as needed. Work Environment: This role is primarily based in a heavy industrial manufacturing facility. Exposure to loud noises, heavy machinery, and varying temperatures.
