We are recruiting on behalf of our client, Less Common Metals. They have an exciting opportunity for an Environmental Compliance Officer to join the team based in Ellesmere Port, Cheshire on a flexible and or part-time, permanent basis, and in return you will receive a competitive salary of £60,000 - £65,000 FTE.
Less Common Metals are a long established manufacturer that is now at the forefront of decarbonising our planet. Their products are sold around the world to enable green energy production and mobility. Substantial growth is therefore anticipated in coming years and the financial controller will be part of the leadership team at this very exciting time.
Purpose:
To manage the company’s statutory environmental and ESG compliance obligations, in order to ensure the effective maintenance of the company’s Quality, Environmental and Health and Safety Management Systems and LCM’s on-going compliance with all relevant environmental legislation.
Key responsibilities of our Environmental Compliance Officer:
* To keep up to date with, understand and interpret, relevant laws and regulations to ensure that LCM fulfils all statutory requirements under current UK and, where relevant, EU environmental legislation.
* To effectively communicate and disseminate information on applicable statutory obligations to relevant colleagues at all levels within the organization and support the implementation of measures necessary to achieve and maintain compliance.
* To manage the company’s EU & UK REACH compliance including on-going monitoring of tonnages of imported raw materials and manufactured product, liaison with suppliers and customers on REACH registration requirements, engagement and management of external consultants to update substance dossiers and purchase letters of access (LoA).
* To manage and monitor compliance with LCM’s environmental permit including permit variations, liaison with and notification to the Environment Agency (EA), quarterly and annual monitoring and reporting of environmental emissions to the EA, the engagement and management of consultants, providing advice to Management Team of the environmental permit implications of changes to processes and activities.
* The management of waste within the company to ensure statutory compliance, including: arranging collections; requesting, checking and filing consignment notes; annual duty of care checks on waste contractors; collating and reporting information on annual waste production.
* The preparation of Materials Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) for new LCM products and updating existing product MSDS as required.
* To maintain an awareness of Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) issues of relevance to LCM’s supply chain. To support colleagues in both sales and purchasing to engage with suppliers and customers in supporting the company to align with minimum acceptable international ESG standards.
Other Responsibilities:
* Other statutory compliance tasks as necessary, such as maintenance of the F-Gas register and monitoring quantities of hazardous materials on site for COMAH compliance.
* To respond to customers’ requests for ESG, quality and statutory compliance information regarding LCM products e.g., completion of Conflict Mineral (CMRT) and Extended Mineral (EMRT) Reporting Templates, product compliance with REACH, SVHC, RoHS etc.
* Undertake annual legal compliance audits as required under LCM’s ISO14001 accreditation and any other internal audits, as required, to support LCM’s Quality & Environmental Management System.
Skills and experience we are looking for in our Environmental Compliance Officer:
* Degree in a relevant subject.
* Demonstrable experience of working within an environmental compliance role.
* Good working knowledge of current environmental legislation and its application, especially environmental permitting and UK/EU REACH.
* Knowledge of ESG issues would be beneficial.
* Experience and/or qualifications in the internal auditing of ISO14001 accredited environmental management systems (or other relevant ISO-accredited management systems e.g., ISO9001, ISO45001).
* Excellent competency and a good level of experience in the manipulation and recording of quantitative data using spreadsheets.
* Ability to interpret legal, scientific and technical information.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
* Good organizational and problem-solving skills.
* Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
