In Debden Park High School, leaders have successfully established a school where high aspirations and excellence are the norm, and where pupils and staff enjoy coming to work. The buzz, enthusiasm, and energy from staff at all levels is palpable. (Ofsted January 2017)
We are providing a unique opportunity for an ambitious individual who wants to take their first step into teaching. We envisage this being a one-year placement before you progress onto our SCITT programme to achieve QTS status during the following year. Candidates wishing to join the scheme will need to be educated to degree level.
Part of the role will involve the teaching of KS3 English, allowing you the opportunity to immerse yourself in the English curriculum, develop your subject knowledge, and begin to hone your skill in the classroom. You will be supported by an English Team which is fully staffed, enthusiastic, and committed to the development of English teachers.
The other part of the role will involve covering lessons across the curriculum. Your role will be to supervise lessons when a teacher is absent. Work will be set by the teacher and your role will be to ensure that students remain on task, complete the work, and maintain good order. You will need to be able to explain instructions to students and help them carry out the work set. This may involve some explanation. You will need to have the skills to work with groups of students or with individuals, and experience of working in schools or with large groups of teenagers would be advantageous.
Lots of our current qualified teachers began their careers at the school in similar roles, and we very much envisage that the successful candidate would be beginning the first step of their journey with us by applying for this role.
