VAT Knowledge: In-depth understanding of the UK VAT regime, particularly its application to Exploration & Production (E&P) and UK Continental Shelf (UKCS) activities. Experience in other energy sectors such as renewables and EV charging is advantageous. Customs Duty: Proven experience or strong interest in developing expertise in Customs duty. Company Law: Working knowledge of company law and some familiarity with international transactions involving EU territories. M&A Transaction Support: Provide indirect tax advice for M&A transactions, working with business development, legal, finance, and other teams to manage organizational risk. Legislation Monitoring and Representation: Keep abreast of changes in indirect tax legislation, propose value-adding representations, and ensure the business is prepared for legislative changes. Coaching and Mentoring: Support and mentor Finance and Tax team members to develop their technical and interpersonal skills, aiding in team succession planning. HMRC Negotiations: Negotiate with HMRC on indirect tax issues and audits to resolve queries satisfactorily. Cross-Departmental Collaboration: Build relationships with Head Office tax colleagues and liaise on the French tax implications of business transactions to ensure a unified understanding of tax environments, opportunities, and challenges. VAT/Customs Training: Raise business awareness of VAT/Customs issues through basic tax training and provide targeted training for tax department staff on oil and gas industry taxation and new tax developments.
