The successful applicant will be a qualified gynaecologist who is also an accredited Subspecialist in Reproductive Medicine. They will be dedicated to evidence-based practice of both reproductive medicine and gynaecology within the National Health Service. They will fit well within the multidisciplinary team comprising the Newcastle Fertility Centre and work to fulfil the aims and ambitions of this dynamic department as a member of that team. Above all, the successful applicant will have the best interests of their patients at the heart of their work.
This post is an excellent opportunity for a suitable candidate to join a highly effective tertiary team embedded in the NHS. This is a 12 month, fixed term post.
Main duties of the job
We are looking for a highly motivated locum consultant to join a team of medical staff, nurses, scientists and managers who are dedicated to the provision of high quality secondary and tertiary level care for couples and individuals with fertility problems and women with gynaecological problems in the general and emergency gynaecology settings.

Job responsibilities
Clinical:
* Provide expert opinion on patients with fertility and/or general gynaecology problems and take independent responsibility for their clinical care.
* Manage general gynaecology and manage specialist reproductive medicine clinics. Undertake operating lists at the RVI. Provide the appropriate post-operative care for these patients.
* Provide treatment services to fertility patients within the QMS of Newcastle Fertility services, in compliance with HFEA licences and co-operating with the multidisciplinary team.
* Participate in the departmental on-call for general gynaecology with a 1 in 8 rota.
* Contribute to aspects of the termination of pregnancy service.
Managerial:
* Contribute to the general organisation and running of the Gynaecology and Reproductive Medicine services within the Trust, working in close collaboration with colleagues.
* Assist the Heads of Department, Directorate Manager and Clinical Director in the timely investigation of complaints working to provide reports within the timeframe set out by Trust policy.
* Undergo Continued Medical Education (CME) in accordance with guidelines stipulated by the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG).
* Participate fully in all aspects of Clinical Governance including audit and risk management.
* Undertake an appraisal.

Administrative:
* Undertake administrative duties in relation to the care of his/her patients and in relation to the running of the Departments of Reproductive Medicine and Gynaecology in co-operation with the Heads of Department, Specialty Manager and Clinical Director.
Research:
* The Trust welcomes and encourages research as a high profile activity that complements the service provided. The emphasis being studies that fall within the National Institute of Health Research Portfolio. Research development will be encouraged.
* It is expected that the appointee will support established research at Newcastle Fertility Centre and work in collaboration with the Scientific Director and consultant colleagues.
Teaching:
* Participate in the teaching of undergraduate medical students from the University of Newcastle upon Tyne in all parts of the course but specifically in stage 3 and 5 during the attachments in Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
* Active involvement in the clinical supervision of all postgraduate trainees in the department with specific responsibility for a small number of individuals as educational supervisor under the direction of the college tutor.
* The incumbent will be expected to contribute to the teaching of ATSM and subspecialty trainees.
* Participate in the teaching and training of any other health care professionals within the directorate.
Person Specification
Education, Qualifications and Specialist Skills
* Primary Medical Qualification
* Full GMC Registration
* Entry onto the GMC Specialist Register (within 6 months from the date of the AAC), including accreditation in Reproductive Medicine and Surgery
* MRCOG / FRCOG
* Higher Degree
* Special skills training in the specialty
Clinical Experience
* Evidence of experience in the specialty
* Evidence of a substantial commitment to the specialty
* Ability to offer an expert clinical opinion within the specialty
* Ability to take independent responsibility for the clinical care of patients referred to a tertiary centre
Management and Administration Experience
* Involvement with management and project leadership within the specialty
* Evidence of involvement in authoring or reviewing clinical guidelines
* An understanding of Clinical Governance
* Proven management and administrative experience and understanding of management goals
* Evidence of leadership / project management

Teaching

Salary: £105,504 to £139,882 per annum pro rata
