Designated Nurse for Looked After Children and Care Leavers

In collaboration with the Designated Doctors for Looked after children and the wider Looked after children health team, the successful candidates will contribute to the development of practice aimed at improving health outcomes for Looked after Children.
Main duties of the job
The designated nurse for looked after children and care leavers will fulfil the requirements of this post as outlined in Working Together to Safeguard Children 2023, Promoting the Health and Well-being of Looked After Children 2015, and the Intercollegiate Guidance; Looked After Children Roles and Competences of Healthcare Staff 2020.
The purpose of the post is to be a source of expert advice and enable the ICB to meet its statutory duties in relation to looked after children and care leavers.

Job responsibilities
The designated nurse for looked after children and care leavers, up to age 25, will fulfil the requirements of this post as outlined in Working Together to Safeguard Children 2023, Promoting the Health and Well-being of Looked After Children 2015, and the Intercollegiate Document Looked After Children Roles and Competences of Healthcare Staff 2020.
The post holder will take the strategic and professional lead with the designated doctor for looked after children for all aspects of the health organisations' contributions to safeguarding of looked after children and care leavers and the promotion of their health and welfare in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.
To enable the ICB to maintain compliance with the relevant legislation and statutory guidance for looked after children and care leavers. To advise commissioners and providers of services in the fulfilment of their responsibilities to improve the health of looked after children and care leavers.
The post holder works as a clinical expert to the ICB, the health system, other local partners, and the safeguarding children partnership in matters relating to looked after children.
Using clinical expertise, the designated nurse for looked after children leads and supports all activities necessary to ensure that organisations within healthcare services meet their responsibilities to safeguard and protect looked after children.
Working with others to ensure that the work stream and programmes are planned and delivered effectively, liaising closely with leads in partner agencies and service providers, including providing health representation at the Corporate Parenting Board.
Lead the Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Looked After Children Health Forum, including preparing agendas, chairing the forum, and ensuring notes are timely and accurate.
Person Specification
Experience
* Extensive experience as a registered nurse working with children and young people.
* Extensive up-to-date working knowledge of looked after children, safeguarding children, and child protection legislation and guidance.
* Extensive experience in safeguarding children and/or looked after children.
* Registered nurse qualification.
* Professional leadership course for looked after children.
