We have recently opened a brand-new Endoscopy facility, a £4.9m investment with a South West Endoscopy Training Academy facility also built.
Identified as a clinical expert, the post holder is required to have a high clinical profile ensuring the provision of effective and efficient care. This will include the management of a caseload of patients. They are expected to work as a highly skilled practitioner and possess expert knowledge. They will provide clinical expertise, leadership, and guidance within the endoscopy service.
The primary focus of the role is to work as an advanced, autonomous practitioner providing patient-centred clinical care, encompassing the skills of assessment, examination, diagnosis, and treatment of patients. The post holder will be an accredited Independent Nurse Endoscopist in Upper and/or Lower GI procedures. The role is intended to provide improved outcomes for patients by enhancing timeliness and consistency of care, driving innovation through new models of care, and actively participating in research and development.
The post holder is expected to exercise a high degree of personal professional autonomy and make critical judgments to satisfy the expectations and demands of the role within a defined framework.
Main duties of the job
The ACP role is service-driven and structured around the Health Education England framework for advanced clinical practice. There are four pillars that underpin this practice:
1. Clinical Practice: At least 60% of work time is spent on direct patient care. The post holder must deliver high-quality care to patients, enable other practitioners to maintain professional expertise, and exercise a high degree of personal autonomy within their role.
2. Professional Leadership and Management: The post holder should demonstrate leadership skills that support and motivate others to continuously improve quality of care and standards of practice. They should be a source of expertise and knowledge for others in their specialist fields.
3. Education, Training and Development: The post holder should contribute to the training and education of others, establishing formal links with local education providers and contributing to the development of registered nurses/AHPs within their specialist fields.
4. Research: The post holder should contribute to the development of professional practice through the promotion of evidence-based practice and audit of standards of care. They should also have a role within research in their specialist fields.
