Library Advisor - fixed term until 31/10/2025

Salary: £24,064 - £26,468 (pro rata for part time)
Hours: 17 per week
Working pattern:
Mon-Wed 09:45-13:10 or 16:40-20:05 (as needed), Sat 09:45-17:05
Our libraries are at the heart of community life and provide a wide range of experiences and opportunities for all. Our staff are highly motivated and committed to meeting the needs of our customers alongside other community services.
This temporary position is at Drumbrae library, a busy branch that caters to a broad community base. The successful candidate will engage with users and partner organisations to provide dynamic services that deliver excellent customer service tailored to the community's needs.
Libraries are no longer a transactional service where people come to exchange books. We deliver on a number of key government agendas to support digital inclusion, reduce poverty and inequalities, and help tackle social isolation. Libraries play a key role in supporting goals and educational attainment for all ages through initiatives such as:
1. Read Write Count
2. Every Child a Library Member
3. Bookbug Sessions
4. Chatterbooks
5. Craft/Activity sessions
6. Gaming & D&D clubs
7. Adult learning classes
8. ESOL classes (English for Speakers of Other Languages)
9. IT Support Drop-Ins
10. Coffee mornings
11. Knitting Groups
12. Film Screenings
13. Author Events
We are always looking to broaden our services and provide new experiences for our community, and so we encourage staff to develop and deliver new activities or events based on skills or personal interests.
Whether it be for babies and new parents, children and young people, teenagers seeking positive activities, or providing advice and signposting to our older residents visiting the library to catch up over a cup of tea, we offer something for everyone - including books!
Candidates should be able to demonstrate an ability to deliver activities and work with people of all ages. The successful candidate will demonstrate an ability to engage with people of all ages.
While the post is based at Drumbrae library, the vast majority of working hours will be in this location. The role is part of the Edinburgh City library service, and as such, the successful candidate would be required to work in any of the 27 libraries across the city to support wider service requirements should there be a need.
The drive to work with people of all ages and backgrounds is key to the role, and a passion for reading, learning, and providing excellent service to communities is vital. If you feel you can demonstrate these skills, please apply.
Responsibilities
This post is regulated work with children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. The preferred candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check. Where an individual has spent a continuous period of 3 months or more outside the UK in the last 5 years, an Overseas Criminal Record Check will be required. An unconditional offer of employment and commencement in the post will be subject to the outcome of both these pre-employment checks being deemed satisfactory.

Our salary range typically reflects the initial starting salary and annually increases until it reaches the top of the range.
