Communications Assistant
Full time, permanent (hybrid – home / Farnborough, Hampshire)
£25,000 pa plus benefits
The Association of Convenience Stores is looking for a Communications Assistant to join the team from January 2025, working with the Communications Manager and the Communications Director in delivering our ongoing communications strategy. We’re looking for someone who is interested in developing their skills and experience in media relations, content creation, social media management, audio and video recording and editing, internal communications, event marketing and website management.
ACS represents the UK’s convenience retailers, including both large and small businesses, on the political issues that affect them. ACS provides industry leading information, networking opportunities, and lobbying to its members, underpinned by a strong presence in the trade and national media on key issues facing the convenience sector, as well as networking and insight packages for suppliers including some of the biggest FMCG (fast moving consumer goods) companies in the UK.
The main responsibilities of the role include:
* Building and managing relationships with key trade media contacts
* Monitoring and reacting to developments in the media relevant to ACS
* Assisting the Communications Director with media relations activity with both trade and national journalists
* Developing content for ACS communication channels, including email marketing, social media, podcasts, and videos
* Maintaining and developing content for the ACS website
* Assisting with the management of ACS social media activity
* Assisting with the development of presentations and reports
* Supporting the marketing of ACS events, tours and conferences
* Participating in ACS events and conferences
The ideal candidate would:
* Have a keen interest in the UK media landscape and a desire to secure trade and national coverage for ACS
* Be interested in content creation and emerging trends
* Be keen to show their creativity in the marketing of events and campaigns
* Have an interest and awareness of social media and the strengths and weaknesses of different platforms
* Have a long term interest in representing ACS as a spokesperson in the media, potentially in print and broadcast
* Have an awareness of the UK political landscape and the way that politics affects businesses
* Have a working knowledge of the Adobe Creative Suite, particularly Photoshop, Indesign and Premiere.
This is a hybrid role, with Mondays in the office in Farnborough, along with some travel to events and other company engagements.
