Job Title: Senior Mechanical Engineer
Salary: up to £55,200 per annum dependent upon experience
Location: Portsmouth
We currently have a vacancy to join one of the world’s leading, global defence, security and aerospace companies as a Senior Mechanical Engineer. The role will be based in Portsmouth but offers the opportunity for hybrid working and flexible working hours. The expectation is to be on site 2 days per week and remote working 3 days per week. You will be joining the Underwater Weapons Mechanical team where their rich underwater weapons heritage and vast experience, together with their constantly developing technology and expertise, enables them to provide a world-class service. They provide and maintain cutting edge underwater capability, value for money solutions that have been proven time and again in extreme environments and harsh operational conditions.
As the UK’s largest concentration of specialist Underwater Weapons design and development engineers, they offer a unique infrastructure, with the expertise, tools, and facilities to design and develop Underwater Weapons in a safe and secure environment.
Main Responsibilities:
1. Responsible for designing and developing key Mechanical systems within the Underwater Weapons sector.
2. Providing technical engineering support and guidance to mechanical engineering design activities for new and legacy products.
3. Undertaking functional design and/or providing qualification and evidence for acceptance, fitness for purpose, regulatory & legislative requirements, and safety.
4. Providing assurance that the design is adequate i.e., it is robust, and provide supporting documentation for the safety case.
5. Contributing to and leading design review discussions/meetings.
6. Assisting Engineering Governance and Requirements Capture activities.
7. Taking part in supplier/stakeholder meetings.
8. Supporting the development of other early careers engineers within the discipline.

About You:
1. Have a detailed understanding of the principles and approaches underpinning mechanical engineering design and development.
2. Will have an understanding, knowledge and experience in mechanical engineering design and development of systems, sub-systems, assemblies, and components.
3. Strongly desirable to have experience in one of the following: Thermal Systems, Fluid Systems, HP Systems, Computational Fluid Dynamics.
4. Requires excellent communication and diplomacy skills; must understand technical instructions and be able to communicate technical information to others.
5. Typically, be at CEng level (or equivalent level of capability) or in the final stages of achieving CEng status.
6. You must be eligible to apply for SC clearance and, therefore, must hold a British passport and have lived and worked in the UK for the past 5 years.
