Job Description
We currently have a fantastic opportunity for an Analytical Chemist to join our Sports & Specialised Analytical Services department (SSAS) which is based at our Fordham (Cambridgeshire) facility.
LGC’s SSAS department provides a range of analytical services including animal sports doping control, human occupational drug testing, nutritional supplement analysis, drug monitoring and bespoke contract research. Due to the diverse nature of analytes studied and the variety of matrices encountered; various sample preparation techniques and instrument technologies are utilised. The SSAS department operates to ISO 17025 quality systems.
Working across our human drug testing (HDT) and supplement analysis teams, you will be responsible for the analysis of a wide range of sample matrices, ranging from the analysis of biological samples for a diverse range of drugs of abuse (including anabolic steroids and new psychoactive substances), through to testing supplement samples for a wide range of substances prohibited in elite sport.
Both qualitative and quantitative analysis is undertaken routinely, dependent upon application; with a wide range of analytical techniques including GC-MS and LC-MS being employed. The role will entail routine analysis, instrument maintenance and troubleshooting (both instrument and method).
Key responsibilities:
* The role is predominantly laboratory based
* Extraction of drugs of abuse and prohibited substances from a range of sample matrices. Sample preparation techniques used include Solid Phase Extraction (SPE) and Liquid-Liquid Extraction (LLE)
* Analysis of routine samples using GC-MS and LC-MS techniques
* Provision of results delivered on time and to the requirements set by our customers, regulatory bodies and quality system following documented procedures
* Interpretation of analytical data and presentation of results and conclusions
* Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting on a range of scientific equipment
* Where required, work closely with development scientists on project work and validations
Qualifications
* Minimum of BSc in Chemistry (or similar relevant scientific discipline) – recent graduates are welcome to apply
* Previous experience of LC-MS and GC-MS techniques.
* Experience of high-resolution accurate mass (HRAM) is desirable but not essential.
* Experience of ISO 17025/GLP is desirable but not essential
