Job Summary
The Safety, Health, Environmental Protection and Fire Officer (SHEFO) is the principle adviser to the Commanding Officer (CO) Northwood Headquarters (NWD HQ) in all aspects of Site Occupational Safety, Health, Environmental Protection and Fire Safety.
The SHEFO will work closely with the NWD HQ Command Team to ensure the safe and secure delivery of services to all site departments and staff, ensuring adherence to policy and UK Gov law.
Strategic Command is going through a significant transformation programme which aims to improve the way the Command conducts its business and delivers for Defence and the nation. As a consequence of this, all posts within Strategic Command Headquarters and in time the wider organisation, are/will be subject to review and potential changes as we continuously improve across the period of the transformation programme. These changes may be minor or could be more substantive and will generate new opportunities.
Job Description
As SHEFO you will work closely with the Northwood Headquarters (NWD HQ) Command Team, acting as the principle adviser to the Commanding Officer NWD HQ in all aspects of HS&EP. This will require you to liaise closely with personnel across the establishment, with NWD HQ Departments and Lodger Units, to collate HS&EP Assurances and providing guidance as necessary. You will complete this by coordinating and conducting regular internal assurance checks, safety meetings and SHEF audits, including CO Inspection Rounds and Combined SHEF Meetings.
As principle HS&EP adviser on the site, you will also provide support and guidance to SHEF representatives across the HQ Departments and Lodger Units to ensure staff concerns are logged and addressed. You will assist the Private Finance Initiative (PFI) in their management of Hard and Soft services on site, and you will support the Establishment Focal Fire Point (EFFP)/ Fire Safety Officer (FSO) in ensuring the sites' fire safety compliance.
You will be responsible for completing, monitoring and updating the mandated Management Plans, Site Risk Assessments, Safety Cases and Accident Investigation Reports. Furthermore, you will conduct the sites' HS&EP Assurance returns, including monthly and quarterly reports.

Essential Competency
* Holds a Level 3 NEBOSH Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety qualification.
Desirable Competencies
* Holds professional membership in the Institute of Occupational Health and Safety (IOSH) Professional Membership.
* Level 3 NEBOSH Certificate in Environmental Safety Management.
* ISO 45001 Lead Auditor Qualification.
* MOD Radiation Safety Officer.
* MOD Unit Fire Safety Manager (UFSM).
* Holds a Level 6 NEBOSH National Diploma for Occupational Health and Safety Management.
Qualifications
Level 3 NEBOSH Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety.
