What you will do
As a member of the BMS Pre-Sales team, you will be instrumental in driving profitable growth, working closely with external and internal partners to make Johnson Controls the BMS provider of choice. The pre-sales engineer will lead the solution development, design, costing, and technical value proposition in response to customers' specifications and client requirements.
This is a remote or hybrid-based position with approx. 20% travel expected.
How you will do it
* Analyze Project Specifications – Assess technical requirements for BMS integration, ensuring alignment with client needs and industry best practices.
* Collaborate with Key Stakeholders – Work closely with external and internal stakeholders to develop optimized and cost-effective BMS solutions.
* Engage with Subcontractors & Suppliers – Obtain and evaluate quotations from subcontractors and suppliers to ensure cost-effective and competitive services/products.
* Develop Detailed Pre-Design Documentation – Prepare technical documents, including system architecture, technical solution descriptions, and compliance checklists.
* Work on Value Engineering (VE) Designs – Identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising functionality or performance, ensuring the most efficient solution for the project.
* Enhance Proposal Strategy – Incorporate client feedback, competitive intelligence, and market insights to refine technical proposals and contribute to project success.
* Ensure Regulatory Compliance – Align designs with UK industry standards, building regulations, and energy efficiency mandates to maintain project viability.
* Develop Cost Estimates & Walkthroughs – Create detailed cost breakdowns, ensuring transparency in scope-to-cost alignment. Conduct cost walkthroughs with clients and contractors to validate budget accuracy and optimized pricing strategies.
* Provide Technical Support During Pre-Sales – Assist the sales team in solution validation, prepare/present technical presentations, and address client concerns effectively.
* Benchmark Against Competitors – Analyze competitor solutions to position proposals effectively and ensure differentiation in terms of value, performance, and innovation.
What we look for
Required
* Proven experience of BMS solution design and true project cost estimation within a BMS environment.
* Professional experience of 5+ years.
* Relevant Qualifications: BCRIA Certificated / Engineering Degree.
* Strong technical ability working on small, large, and complex BMS Projects.
* Able to demonstrate the ability to use PDF (Documents & Drawings), MS Visio, and all Microsoft Office packages including Microsoft Outlook, Teams, Excel, and Word.
* Knowledge and experience in identifying BMS specs, scope of work, BMS system requirements.
* Knowledge and experience of how to design the BMS Main Structure, BMS operation scenarios in line with the specs & requirements.
Preferred
* Ability to Create / Control Valve & Actuator Selection and create Valve Schedules.
* AutoCAD experience.
