An exciting opportunity has arisen for a 12-month developmental Band 6 midwife to work with our specialist perinatal mental health midwife. While extensive perinatal mental health experience is not a requirement, we encourage anyone with a keen interest and passion for perinatal mental health with hopes of further development to apply.
A key part of this role is building strong relationships with statutory agencies, such as the social services and the police, in an inter-agency context where activities will be complex to maintain care across professional groups.
Working as part of the midwifery team the post holder will provide support and education to maternity and multidisciplinary staff, caring for these women and their unborn babies to ensure a safe and appropriate plan of care is made. They will work alongside external agencies, e.g. community perinatal mental health services, mental health services and partner agencies..
• Work according to the NMC Code and relevant professional guidelines as a midwife with facilitation for a defined group of women and their babies with minimal supervision in the Maternity Care setting.
• The assessment of care and health education needs of women and their babies
• Maintain accountability for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluation programmes of care within the necessary framework
• Develop leadership skills and experience in the management of the ward/department.
• Reviewing midwifery practice and implementing appropriate changes based on research/best practice.
• Developing and implementing Audit, Quality and Risk Management initiatives.
• Participate in training programmes as appropriate and to teach and act as a facilitator/preceptor to midwifery or non-midwifery staff.
• Promote and maintain effective communication.
• Create a supportive blame-free environment for staff and women
• Implement Trust policies, evidence-based guidelines and care pathways relevant to perinatal mental health.
• Work closely with the Specialist Midwife to re-design pathways to ensure an efficient effective service.
• Identify and promote ways of improving the service, utilising available research and ensuring alignment with Trust and group objectives.
• Maintain high quality contemporaneous records of care, treatment, referrals and outcomes.
• Contribute to the specialist midwife clinical support rota as required to meet service needs.
