Job Description
Key Responsibilities:
The Engineering Manager will lead the global engineering activities for software development in support of new product development, legacy products, and test equipment. This includes organisational capability development, global Aerospace alignment, improved program execution using disciplined engineering processes, risk management and portfolio/resource planning using leading indicators & metrics.
The role will also involve the implementation of organisational performance measures, the development of best cost country (BCC) engineering capabilities, the refinement and implementation of technology strategy for specific business units, and advancement of engineering capabilities to support the development of next generation products and systems.
* Lead a team of professional & technical engineering staff to provide software development for new product development, iR&D, and product support teams across MSD.
* Organise and build talent base within the Avionics team, create opportunities for growth and development of the engineering team.
* Improve the efficiency of the software engineering functions are emphasised through creative organisational management, effective use of engineering tools, appropriate training and continuous improvement.
* Drive consistency and best practices across the organisation with respect to product documentation, design standards, and related material specifications.
* Assure that product designs are competitive on a global basis with respect to quality, reliability and cost.
* Work with Aerospace Group level & corporate level Centres of Excellences, including Pune, India, for a seamless product development, execution process and organisational capability development.
* Use best practices of robust design (Design for Six Sigma, DFSS) & promote the 'analysis first' mindset.
* Establish digital processes and experience within the engineering team aligned to the Aerospace Group strategy.
* Identify key engineering metrics, monitor performance and implement improvements accordingly.
* Maintain close liaison with the Operational Excellence organisation to ensure high quality and year over year manufacturing cost reductions.
* Establish and maintain contacts with Universities to develop advanced products and potential new hires.
* Other duties as assigned.
* Up to 20% Travel may be required.
Qualifications:
* Degree in Engineering or Software and Computer Engineering from an accredited institution.
* Advanced engineering degree or MBA preferred.
* Ideally 8-10 years of experience within the aerospace industry including experience in software development and verification for the managerial position.
* Ideally 4+ years experience in embedded software experience for the software engineer position.
Requirements:
* Experience with software development and verification.
* Ideally knowledge and application of DO-178.
* Embedded C experience is essential.
* Familiarity with Aerospace industry processes and standards is preferred.
* Familiarity with Aerospace AAR, Actuation, or Environmental systems and products is preferred.
* Held a key role in an aerospace related professional organization.
* Proven track record of driving change and ability to develop and execute technology development plans.
* Python is not essential but useful.
* Demonstrated leadership skills, experience with design processes, portfolio and program management skills, knowledge of customer strategies, successful new product introduction experience, creative/innovative thinking.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
* Work in a matrix organisation within a global virtual engineering organisation.
* Network divisional resources.
* Develop productive working relationships with functions and organisations outside of Engineering.
* Develop working relationships within the Aerospace engineering community.
* Develop working relationships with customers.
