An exciting and rewarding opportunity has arisen for an experienced clinician to join our Head and Neck Cancer and Voice team at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital. The post holder will work with both inpatients and outpatients, predominately within the specialism of Head and Neck Cancer, though there will be opportunity to also work in Voice.
This post is being advertised at a Band 6 Specialist Speech and Language Therapist level, but suitably experienced Band 5 therapists willing to undertake six months of structured development from Band 5 to Band 6 will also be considered.
You will join a well-supported, innovative team of specialist Head and Neck and Voice speech and language therapists committed to evidence-based practice. The NNUH forms part of the East of England Cancer Alliance and is the main Head and Neck Cancer site for Norfolk, Waveney and East Suffolk. The SLT team works closely with the MDT with the opportunity to attend weekly ward rounds, MDT meetings/clinics, radiotherapy clinics, and close liaison with the dietitians and clinical nurse specialists.

• To provide specialist Speech and Language Therapy assessment, differential diagnosis, and treatment for adults with communication, swallowing and voice disorders in the Head and Neck Cancer and Voice Teams, including the opportunity to contribute to FEES, videofluoroscopy and voice prosthesis management in laryngectomy.
• To provide specialist education, training and advice to patients, carers, SLT colleagues, other health care professionals, students, and voluntary organisations.
• To work as part of a multidisciplinary team to ensure inter-professional patient care for patients with communication and swallowing disorders
• Receive regular supervision, have the opportunity to be involved in service development and research projects and attend regular team meetings.
• Commitment to continuing professional development, we offer clinical skills development in managing voice prosthesis and tracheostomy, and conducting FEES and Videofluoroscopy.
• Strong links with the University of East Anglia including the undergraduate SLT degree course and Medical School.

• To provide specialist Speech and Language Therapy assessment, differential diagnosis, and treatment for adults with complex acquired communication and swallowing disorders within the context of Head and Neck cancer in both in-patient and out-patient settings.
• To provide specialist Speech and Language Therapy assessment, differential diagnosis, and treatment for adults and children with Voice disorders in both in-patient and out-patient settings.
• To provide specialist education, training and advice to patients, carers, SLT colleagues, other health care professionals, students, and voluntary organisations.
• To demonstrate specialist skills in dealing with complex cases, cultural and linguistic differences and to generate appropriate strategies for caseload management, in the Head and Neck/Voice disorders patient population.
• To work as part of a multidisciplinary team to ensure inter-professional patient care for patients with Head and Neck cancer and Voice disorders.
• Be involved in undertaking audit, and contributing to research, in Head and Neck cancer and Voice disorders.

• To hold and manage an identified caseload independently and to be legally accountable for all clinical decisions and professional actions.
• To provide specialist assessment, differential diagnosis and appropriate, clearly planned SLT intervention and discharge planning for patients with a wide range of disorders within the Head and Neck Cancer/Voice team, in line with RCSLT Clinical Guidelines and standards set by the Team Leader/SLT Service Manager.
• For complex patients such as those with tracheostomies, to work under the supervision of senior colleagues in supporting weaning, communication and swallowing function as service need dictates.
