GSL Education are seeking a Behaviour Support Assistant to join a secondary school in Southampton. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys supporting students who may face social, emotional, or behavioural challenges, helping them to engage positively with education. As a Behaviour Support Assistant, you will work closely with students, teachers, and support staff to create a safe and structured learning environment. Your role will involve implementing behaviour strategies, promoting emotional well-being, and helping students develop positive coping skills for success in the classroom and beyond. Responsibilities: Provide one-to-one and group support for students with behavioural needs. Assist in managing classroom behaviour and de-escalating situations when necessary. Build strong, trusting relationships with students to encourage engagement and positive choices. Work with teachers to implement behaviour management strategies tailored to individual students. Support students with emotional regulation and social skills development. Encourage students to develop confidence, resilience, and a positive attitude toward learning. Maintain accurate records of student progress and behaviour interventions. Work collaboratively with the SENCO, pastoral team, and external agencies when required. Requirements: CACHE Level 2 or 3, NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Childcare or Teaching Assistance (preferred but not essential). Experience working with young people, particularly those with behavioural, social, or emotional difficulties as a Behaviour Support Assistant. A degree in Psychology, Education or in a similar field. A patient, resilient, and compassionate approach. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to remain calm and proactive in challenging situations. Understanding of safeguarding and child protection policies. Enhanced DBS check on the update service or willingness to apply for one. Why Join GSL Education?
