The endoscopy service has a designated decontamination service and the post holder will be expected to have a sound knowledge of decontamination, guidelines and equipment traceability. The prevention of healthcare-associated infection (HCAI) and decontamination is a corporate and national priority, and a core element of safe high quality care that promotes patient dignity and positive experiences for patients and their families. The Decontamination Lead is responsible for providing strategic leadership and direction on Decontamination, for all personnel and areas within Endoscopy.The team has a key role to work with clinical, operational and support teams to ensure that the risk of infection to patients and staff is minimised. The Decontamination Lead is a specialist clinical practitioner on a range of Decontamination within Endoscopy. They will routinely provide specialist and sometimes complex advice as part of routine working, and will be competent in the delivery of training and audit programmes. They will work in partnership with the Countywide Departments and other members of the Decontamination & Infection Prevention Team in the development of evidence based practice throughout all areas of Endoscopy. The ideal candidate will have experience of a management role in endoscopy or a related service be passionate about the support and development of staff and influencing change. The successful applicant will also assist in the development of the Endoscopy support services, influencing the highest standard of patientcare through audit, research and specialist education to patients, carers and other professionals working closely with the Governance Lead, Unit Managers and Decontamination Teams across all sites. They will be required to develop both their own skills and knowledge and contribute to the development of others, whilst ensuring safe practice is embedded at all times. Basic and advanced Competence and qualification in Endoscopy Care and Decontamination are desirable To provide quality planned care across the endoscopy patient pathway, supporting and assisting the Unit Managers and Decontamination Teams in the management and organisation of care provision within the endoscopy unit. To participate in the improvement in Essential Quality Requirements and Best Practice standards for flexible endoscopy services including decontamination and clinical care.
