Hywel Dda University Health Board is looking to recruit to the role of Prescribing Clerk, working as a member of the team in Meddygfa Minafon, one of our Health Board Managed GP Practices. There may be a requirement to work across different Primary Care sites within the Health Board as needed.
The post holder will process patients' repeat prescriptions accurately and in a timely manner, and will work closely with our GPs, Clinical Pharmacists, Pharmacy Technicians, admin team, and local community pharmacies. The successful candidate will liaise with patients, carers, and other health professionals regarding queries and requests and will ensure repeat medication is issued in line with practice protocols and systems, ensuring any queries are dealt with quickly and correctly.
Main duties of the job
Issuing of daily prescriptions, batch prescriptions, and reauthorization of certain prescriptions.
Liaising with local Community Pharmacies to build effective working relationships.
Processing patient queries about prescriptions.
Ensuring any monitoring tests are up to date before the issue of prescription.
Ensuring any change of doses from hospital discharge letters are updated on the patient’s records.
Training and supporting receptionists with processing of prescriptions.
Covering reception as directed.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
This is a key role assisting the clinical and administration teams at the practices in organizing patient care and helping to ensure that medicines are issued in a safe and timely manner. You will need to be able to work on your own and to prioritize your work. Good communication skills and the ability to work under pressure are essential. Previous experience of working in a primary care setting and knowledge of prescribing systems would be desirable but not essential as full training will be given.

Qualifications and Knowledge
Essential criteria
* Educated to GCSE level or equivalent.
* NVQ level 3 in customer service or equivalent experience.
* Competent to RSA Level 1 in typing/word processing.
* Working knowledge of Microsoft Office including Word and Excel.
Desirable criteria
* Awareness of a range of Health Services provisions.
* Knowledge of NHS issues.
* Understanding of Data Protection legislation.
* Familiarity with the names of common medications.
* Working knowledge of Emis and Vision GP software systems.
Experience
Essential criteria
* Experience of working in a customer service role.
Desirable criteria
* Demonstrable experience of working in an administrative environment and working with GP clinical systems.
* Experience of working in a healthcare environment, particularly one dealing with medicines.
* Experience of working on the telephone such as a call center environment.
Language Skills
Desirable criteria
* Welsh Speaker (Level 1).
