Path Links is a networked Pathology Service offering a wide range of diagnostic investigations on tissue, blood, and fluid samples. A Biomedical Scientist (BMS) is a member of a multidisciplinary Pathology team within the network delivering an effective, high quality and responsive 24hr services to patients, Clinicians and General Practitioners. Registration with the Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC) is mandatory for practicing BMS staff.
All Path Links laboratories are accredited to national United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) ISO 15189:2012 standards. Regular assessments by external auditors from UKAS assess laboratory compliance with the published standards and ensure that the service provided meets the needs and requirements of users.
A fundamental component of the Path Links quality framework is the application and integration of Lean principles, together with other continuous improvement tools, to all aspects of service provision across the organisation.
The post holder will be a HCPC registered BMS.
Main duties of the job
1. Perform routine and specialist investigations in accordance with Path Links Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
2. The accurate analysis of samples using specialist instrumentation or manual techniques.
3. Operation of accurate measuring equipment.
4. Perform routine maintenance on complex, high value laboratory equipment.
5. 'Troubleshoot' problems that arise during the course of the working day and rectify them, or seek appropriate assistance.
6. Participate in the provision of a 24 hour 'Out of hours' service where operated or participation in extended day staff rota as appropriate. This will require taking responsibility for the laboratory service and support staff during the shift period without direct supervision.

Person Specification
Education and Qualifications
* IBMS accredited degree in Biomedical Sciences.
* HCPC registered.
Occupational Experience
* Previous NHS laboratory experience.
* Experience of Blood Sciences (Chemistry, Haematology and Transfusion).
* Experience of Quality Management within the Laboratory.
* Experience with Laboratory Information Management Systems.
