We are delighted to be offering the opportunity for an apprentice therapeutic radiographer to join the radiotherapy team at the Torbay Oncology Centre.
Radiotherapy plays a vital role in the management of cancer, with up to 50% of all cancer patients receiving radiotherapy as part of their treatment pathway.
This exciting apprenticeship opportunity will allow you to start a career in a highly rewarding allied health profession which combines a high standard of patient care with advanced technical skills. You will undertake on-the-job training alongside BSc study with the University of the West of England (UWE) over a 36-month period. The training will be academically challenging but you will be fully supported throughout to develop the required skills and knowledge.
Successful completion of the training will allow you to register as a qualified therapeutic radiographer with the HCPC.

Main duties of the job
1. To undertake the Radiotherapy Radiographer Apprenticeship programme
2. Work as part of the multi-disciplinary team to undertake a range of radiotherapy duties and procedures, as detailed within the apprenticeship programme
3. Work under the supervision of a Registered Practitioner at all times
4. Attend other radiotherapy departments to gain sufficient experience in some treatments or novel technologies where this is considered appropriate
5. Attend mandatory block study weeks for the Radiotherapy Radiographer Apprenticeship programme at the University of the West of England (UWE)
You will be required to deal effectively with staff of all levels throughout the Trust, with external organisations and with the public on a day-to-day basis. This will include via verbal, written and electronic media.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
1. Work effectively as part of a wider multidisciplinary team to deliver a safe and efficient radiotherapy service, within a clearly defined framework of accountability
2. Commit to study both within working hours and at home during the duration of the apprenticeship programme
3. Attend virtual tutorials and webinars and complete all e-learning as directed by UWE
4. Attend mandatory study block weeks at UWE
5. Undertake clinical training in a wide range of radiotherapy treatment techniques and associated activities under the direct supervision of registered personnel at all times
6. Work within local policies and procedures
7. Be responsible for own clerical activities and record keeping
8. Adhere to radiation safety protocols at all times
9. Demonstrate clinical competence developed through continual professional development, reflective practice and maintenance of a skills portfolio relevant to the service specification
10. Recognise and address risk factors with the potential to impact patients/clients and carers within the healthcare setting and feedback appropriately to the registered practitioner
11. Report any incidents, untoward incidents, complaints and near misses to the appropriate professional within the stated timescales
