An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Behaviour Nurse Specialist to join our Clinical team at Beechwood College.
This post would suit an individual who wants to make a positive difference in the lives of young people with Autism Spectrum Disorder, some of whom have an additional learning disabilities, and complex and challenging needs (aged 18-25).
We are looking for an outstanding and aspirational nurse to collaborate with the specialist MDT, primary stakeholders, and co-productively with students to design and effectively implement a range of tailored Positive Behaviour Support strategies. You will take a lead role in providing support and direct practice leadership to clinicians, residential and educational staff in order to ensure delivery of high quality behavioural support across the college setting. The successful candidate will manage a caseload and have an element of coordination with other Behaviour Support Team members. The candidate will complete and implement a range of evidence-based specialist assessments and interventions that are guided by and built around the strengths, challenges, needs, and interests of those requiring support. Interventions will focus on enhancing quality of life, promoting personal skill development, and reducing and eliminating the use of restrictive practices.
Person Specification
Essential
• Registration with the Nursing & Midwifery Council
• Experience of working within an Autism or Learning Disability setting supporting individuals with Autism and/or Learning Disabilities who present with complex and challenging needs
• Demonstrable evidence of the application of behavioural approaches for adults/young people with Autism and/or Learning Disabilities who present with complex and challenging needs
• Experience delivering consultation and practice leadership
• Competence in the application of principles of Mental Capacity Act, as relevant to this population and setting
Desirable
• Further training/qualification in Positive Behavioural Support
• Experience within Autism education / social care settings
Sessional commitment for the post is flexible, with 0.6 – 1.0 WTE being the preferred time commitment.
