RACE is a dynamic environment, combining routine engineering with innovative robotic experimentation. In this role, you'll ensure all work is planned and conducted in line with the highest health, safety, and regulatory standards. You will collaborate with projects conducting novel research and development, advising on safety best practices, and managing the RACE work control system to ensure proper planning, review, and approval. Strong collaboration with project teams, management, and technical delivery teams is key to success in this role. In this role, you will support projects throughout the work control process by ensuring early engagement, managing expectations, and providing timely responses. You'll work with project teams to ensure safety and regulatory compliance requirements are understood and planned for upcoming work. Additionally, you'll attend work control meetings, offering input on safety management, and oversee the approval and acceptance of external RAMS in line with internal systems. You will manage both live and historic Work Control Plans (WCPs), ensuring documentation is up-to-date and properly tracked, and act as the approver for work within the core RACE building. Collaboration with the Facility Group Manager to gather feedback and implement lessons learned for continuous improvement will also be key, as well as supporting system improvements, changes, and providing training on risk assessments and work control processes as needed. Additional Responsibilities: Safety Walks : Lead and assist with formal safety walks, ensuring actions are managed across all RRDD areas, and conduct informal area walks to maintain continuous compliance. Manage reporting of OEI and safety data through central UKAEA. UNORS : Organize and lead investigations when a UNOR is raised, raise UNORs on behalf of RACE when necessary, and manage the tracking, reporting, and resolution of UNOR actions. Regulatory Compliance : Ensure RACE’s compliance with relevant regulatory standards (e.g., PUWER, LOLER, COSHH, MHSaWR), audit systems, and lead improvements to address compliance gaps. Wider RRDD Integration : Collaborate with groups within the wider RRDD to roll out core processes, ensure compliance with agreed procedures, and support safety and work control in other areas as needed. Safety Actions System Ownership : Own and manage the formal RACE safety actions system, ensuring its maintenance, continuous improvement, and effective operation to support safety management across RACE.
