Job responsibilities

2. CLINICAL PRACTICE
3. To carry out radiographic examinations across a range of modalities to the agreed standard of the department.
4. Complete high-quality examinations consistent with ALARA principles.
5. To maintain a high standard of patient care and comfort and be patient-focused at all times.
6. To work in an efficient and effective manner at all times.
7. To plan, prioritise and organise own workload.
8. To vet request forms for validity and appropriateness.
9. To evaluate the quality of imaging acquired and determine whether repeat or additional acquisitions are required.
10. To undertake intravenous cannulation and administration of medicines in line with departmental policy.
11. To report any untoward incidents and equipment failure to the relevant modality lead radiographer and where appropriate medical physics expert.
12. To report incidents or near misses via the DATIX system and to report defective equipment as soon as possible.
13. To work unsupervised as and when required.
14. To work using own initiative but be aware of own limitations and seek guidance when necessary.
15. To work flexibly based on requirements of service.
16. Contribute to minimising hospital-acquired infections.
17. To carry out duties which may be considered necessary and consistent with the responsibilities of the post.

Qualifications

* Student Clinical Assessors Course (D)
* College of Radiographers or equivalent accredited IV cannulation course (E)
* Postgraduate study in a relevant area (D)
* Understanding of factors affecting service throughput and quality
* Completion of preceptorship (E)
* PgC/PgD or MSc in relevant clinical modality (D)
Experience
* Up to date knowledge of relevant modality imaging techniques (E)
* Awareness of clinical governance issues in relation to patient care (E)
