This role will report to the Chief Engineer - Chassis. The ideal candidate will drive the design, development, and delivery of innovative motorcycle technologies, ensuring performance, safety, and regulatory compliance. This role will play a critical part in shaping the future of our motorcycle product line by overseeing end-to-end engineering processes and providing technical leadership. Key Responsibilities: Help oversee the design, development, and optimization of motorcycle components and systems, including engine, chassis, suspension, electronics, and more. Approving Designs and Drawings Manage Specific Chassis design review Act as the technical expert in the motorcycle division, providing guidance and mentorship to engineers and cross-functional teams. Lead complex projects from concept to production, ensuring timely delivery and high-quality results. Drive innovation through R&D, investigating new technologies, materials, and processes that improve performance, efficiency, and rider experience. Work closely with product design, manufacturing, quality assurance, and supply chain teams to ensure that designs meet company standards and customer expectations. Ensure all designs comply with global safety and environmental regulations, including emissions standards, safety certifications, and other industry standards Liaise with external engineering service providers to ensure the procurement of high-quality components and materials. Manage NPD Gateway timelines to meet project goals. Promote continuous improvement in engineering processes, ensuring efficiency, quality, and cost-effectiveness in designs. The management of your team including: Maintaining morale and motivating your team while providing leadership when required. Making critical decisions as required. Overseeing and managing the performance and development of varying levels of design engineers. Driving and improving best practices and efficiency. Completing appraisals in a constructive manner. Identifying training and development needs, and promoting appropriate actions. Authorising holidays and overtime within set limits. Assisting in the recruitment of new team members Continual development of the knowledge base and capabilities within the Design and Engineering department. This includes : Assisting the Chief Engineer in creating and maintaining design and development procedures. Attending and inputting into the engineering reviews and discussions. Promoting and actively gaining knowledge in new fields of engineering and technology. Sharing and communication of technical knowledge. Key characteristics that a Principal Engineer should demonstrate: Understand engineering fundamentals in the design and development of components and assemblies, including: Understanding of manufacturing processes. Appropriate material and manufacturing process selection. Geometric dimensioning and tolerancing. Design for assembly. Design for manufacture. Risk identification and mitigation. Problem identification and solution. Creation, assessment and application of relevant analysis and test methods. Candidates will ideally satisfy the following essential requirements: Practical hands-on engineering and mechanical experience. Motorcycle Experience is essential for this role (Through Career or personal experience) A minimum of 10 years of automotive engineering background. Pro-E or CREO experience is preferred but not essential. An understanding of motorcycle chassis design and its interaction with powertrain and electronics. A knowledge of DFM and DFA. Experience liaising with the supply chain. Experience in materials and manufacturing processes. An interest in motorcycles.
