Bryanston School is a preeminent co-educational boarding and day school located in Dorset, England, for pupils aged 3 to 18. Founded in 1928, the school is renowned for its unique educational approach, known as the 'Bryanston Method', which emphasizes independent learning and self-discipline. This approach allows students to work at their own pace, supported by tutors and teachers, fostering independence and creativity. The school is set on a picturesque 400-acre estate and is predominantly a boarding school with around 700 pupils, including about 100 day pupils from the local area. With a staff of around 500, Bryanston is a warm, welcoming and supportive community. We are now looking for a new Director of People & Culture. This is an exciting opportunity to bring strong leadership to our experienced Senior Management and Executive Team (ExCo), providing HR advice on complex issues. The Director of People & Culture will have responsibility for the oversight of all staffing matters for the School. This is a generalist HR role, requiring someone with a combination of strategic and operational HR expertise. Experience in recruitment, talent management, and employee relations is likely to be particularly helpful. The successful candidate will bring proven experience of senior HR leadership, driving change and building a high-performance culture. They will have the ability to develop, execute, and refine a robust strategic people plan, ensuring flexibility to adapt in response to changing priorities, as well as the ability to build strong relationships at all levels. They will work closely with the Headmaster and ExCo to align HR strategy with organisational goals. With high levels of personal and professional integrity, their values will align with the School’s mission and ethos. Although prior experience in a school setting is not required, the successful candidate must have an empathy for and interest in the culture and complexities of working in a full boarding educational institution like ours.
