Healthcare Support Worker Orthopaedic Pre-assessment Unit
We are offering an opportunity for a motivated individual to work in the busy environment of the Orthopaedic Pre-Assessment Unit, at the University Hospital of Llandough, as a Healthcare Support Worker.
This Unit cares for patients undergoing orthopaedic surgery, assessing their health conditions prior to surgery.

Main duties of the job
The main roles for this Band 3 post are primarily:
* Taking and recording observations
* Performing ECG and taking pre-surgery swabs
* Performing venepuncture
* Chaperoning
* Monitoring stock levels
* Supporting with relevant documentation and patient packs delivery
* Responsible for the smooth running of the decontamination area, identifying and reporting any issues to the nurse in charge
* Acting as a role model and support for junior HCSWs
Essential requirements of this role are:
* Previous healthcare experience (Carer / HCSW)
* Good communication and interpersonal skills
* The ability to work well as part of a team
* Enthusiastic and motivated
* Commitment to professional development must be demonstrated
NVQ/QCF Level 3 or equivalent level of knowledge (or working towards).
Desirable requirements for the role (but not essential) are:
* Prior experience within an orthopaedic environment.
* Knowledge of outpatient work would be useful but training and support will be provided.
The ability to work independently and as part of a team.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Qualifications, Skills & Experience
* NVQ/QCF Level 3 or equivalent level of knowledge
* Previous HCSW in a hospital setting
* Good standard of written English / Welsh
* Able to perform venepuncture
* Experience within an orthopaedic setting
* Experience within an outpatient setting
* Able to take and record observations appropriately
* Able to perform ECG
Skills & Knowledge
* Able to maintain good stock levels
* Oracle trained
