While Burgers and Fries are what we’re famous for, we know that it’s crucial that our restaurant teams have the right tools to allow the smooth and safe running of our restaurants and we know that the right processes go a long way in supporting these goals - which is why we’re looking for a standalone H&S Manager to join the People Team. The H&S Manager will need to deeply understand operations and build great relationships, with a strong and consistent focus on “going above and beyond” for our people The H&S Manager will need to upskill and coach our managers.
WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING
1. Own and create a Health and Safety Strategy and lead and manage on all H&S tasks.
2. Lead the H&S committee.
3. Manage the existing Health and Safety policies and procedures detailed in the Five Guys Health and Safety Manual and relevant sections of the Operation Manual. Maintain the Primary Authority approval.
4. Manage H&S monitoring platforms (Compliance Mate and EcoSure) and their effective implementation to ensure all legal requirements are met.
5. Manage and KPI reporting on third party store audits, identifying trends, potential risks and ensure our teams understand the importance of compliance. Address and resolve problems and opportunities together with relevant service support team.
6. Build relationships with the Maintenance and Construction teams for H&S with contractors.
7. Working with senior management reviewing the H&S strategy, ensuring this is fit for purpose and industry best practice.
8. Engaging with operational teams, clients, and external stakeholders, ensuring responsibilities are clear and the strategy is delivered at site level.
9. Support operational teams in achieving the standards required and expected. To include support visits and coaching.
10. Keeping updated with key changes to legislation and ensuring the organisation remains compliant and answering technical H&S related enquires.
11. Accurately reporting to the Board on Health, Safety and Environment performance, and continually identifying areas for improvement.
12. Providing expert H&S advice and knowledge to a range of senior stakeholders across the business.
13. Develop and maintain risk assessments.
14. Monitor accident reporting and identify trends in the business.
15. Lead H&S campaigns.
16. Investigate accidents and report under RIDDOR.
17. Lead on claims management, working with our insurers to resolve matters.
18. Lead on the annual stores audit for our insurer.
19. Provide support to the Customer Service team on H&S related complaints.
20. Support the Training and L&D teams on delivering H&Straining, including in person and online training/information/courses. Ensure the Training and L&D teams remain compliant with current requirements.
21. Support stores with relevant authority audits/visits and work directly with enforcement officers.
22. Manage Fire Risk Assessments for new stores and work with Construction and Property teams on identified issues.
23. Lead on completing H&S related questions on the annual audit with Deloitte.
24. Work with the People Team where required on employee related matters.
BEHAVIOURS REQUIRED
25. Technical/professional qualification/accreditation such as Graduate IOSH or NEBOSH National General Certificate.
26. Diploma in H&S or equivalent
27. Experience in a similar multi-site business, ideally in hospitality or retail.
28. Excellent time management and organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise work.
29. Able to work independently and take the initiative to solve problems quickly and efficiently.
30. Not averse to taking occasional/urgent calls outside of normal office hours.
31. Strong proactive interest in learning/mastering H&S best practices, while improving processes.
32. Keeping up to date with changing legislation.
33. Excellent written communication skills – with high levels of literacy. Minimal avoidable errors, especially when writing mass communications or outcome letters. Adopting the mentality – “it goes out right the first time.”
34. Strong presentation skills, with the ability to impactfully share subject materials to larger groups, either face to face or video.
35. Effective communication skills and collaboration skills, being able to engage at all levels from Crew Member to Exec. Confident in communicating with many different people from differing backgrounds.
36. Demonstrate good emotional intelligence skills, particularly around empathy.
37. Strong Microsoft Office skills - including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
38. Willingness to embrace and learn all aspects of people technology systems and tools.
39. Genuine desire to drive personal learning, combined with ambition to grow with Five Guys.
40. High integrity with personal information.
Where you’ll be working:
41. This is predominantly a field based role.
42. You’ll work from home, in stores and from the Support Office in London.
43. Extensive UK wide travel will be required with overnight stays.
44. Occasional international travel may be required.
