Lead the Build: Site Manager Wanted for Constructionarium (10-Week Contract – Starts 03/03/25!)
SUMMARY OF ROLE
Constructionarium is a not-for-profit that provides unique experiential learning to students studying built environment courses and employees across the sector. Reporting to the Operations Director, the Site Manager is a key member of the Constructionarium team. In this role, they are responsible for overseeing daily operations at the unique Bircham Newton project site—from initial planning and execution of educational events through to project completion. They will lead and manage the on-site construction team and subcontractors, ensuring strict adherence to health, safety, and environmental regulations to deliver successful and safe projects.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Oversee and coordinate the daily activities on-site, ensuring tasks align with project programmes, event requirements, and deadlines.
2. Ensure the project site is prepared in advance of customer events and manage the post-event decommissioning phase.
3. Manage and implement Constructionarium’s Health and Safety Plan, policies, and procedures at site level.
4. Enforce strict adherence to health, safety, and environmental regulations.
5. Conduct and record daily activity briefings and toolbox talks.
6. Ensure all engaged parties receive a comprehensive site induction and hold the qualifications, skills, and experience required for their roles.
7. Monitor behaviours on site to confirm safe working practices and correct use of PPE.
8. Maintain accurate site records in compliance with PUWER and LOLER regulations.
9. Ensure all periodic and facility inspections are conducted, documented, and kept in accordance with company policies.
10. Assign tasks to site supervisors, operatives, and trade persons, monitoring both progress and quality.
11. Track plant, materials, and labour to optimise usage, improve efficiency, and manage costs.
12. Coordinate deliveries, checking against purchase orders, and organise the storage of materials to maintain an efficient site layout.
13. Control, manage, and monitor site waste in line with the Waste Management Plan.
14. Ensure that all site documents (e.g., safety management, project packs, drawings, specifications) are organised and accessible to stakeholders.
15. Act as the primary on-site contact for customers, partners, CITB, suppliers, supporters, and site neighbours.
16. Address questions, updates, and concerns promptly to maintain strong relationships and a positive site environment.
17. Organise and attend site meetings, providing clear updates on progress, challenges, and achievements.
18. Establish, maintain, and build positive relations with all stakeholders, ensuring high levels of customer satisfaction.
19. Lead by example, upholding Constructionarium’s values and promoting a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.
20. Mentor and motivate site personnel, fostering collaboration and productivity.
21. Conduct performance reviews, identify training needs, and support staff development.
22. Undertake required training in a cost-effective manner, remaining up to date on industry standards and new technologies.
23. Maintain high-quality standards, verifying that completed work meets design specifications and company guidelines.
24. Address any non-compliance or defects promptly, coordinating remedial actions with relevant stakeholders.
25. Keep accurate records of inspections, sign-offs, and stage completions.
26. Monitor daily progress against key milestones, reporting deviations and proposing solutions to mitigate issues.
27. Anticipate potential problems (e.g., material shortages, weather disruptions) and implement contingency plans to avoid delays.
28. Manage subcontractors’ performance, ensuring they meet behavioural expectations, deadlines, and quality requirements.
29. Develop a thorough understanding of the Constructionarium project portfolio and communicate project requirements effectively to subcontractors and relevant stakeholders.
30. Continually develop knowledge of innovative construction techniques and products to enhance the business offering.
31. Provide input to senior management for monthly progress reports and other company-wide initiatives, including Corporate Social Responsibility programmes.
The above list is not exhaustive, and the post holder may be required to take on other duties and responsibilities for the effective and efficient performance of this role and for Constructionarium operations.
THE CANDIDATE
The successful candidate will have the following qualifications, skills and experience:
1. Good stakeholder management skills with the ability to communicate professionally at all levels.
2. Proven experience in site supervision or management roles within the construction industry.
3. Excellent attention to detail.
4. Problem-solving approach, able to act decisively under pressure.
5. Excellent leadership and communication skills to manage diverse teams and stakeholders.
6. Strong organisational and multitasking abilities to handle multiple site activities.
7. Analytical thinker with the ability to grasp concepts quickly.
8. Experience of working in fast-paced environments with changing priorities.
9. Proficient use of MS Office including (Excel, Word and PowerPoint) and ability to use other software such as Xero, Teams, Outlook etc.
10. Full clean UK driving licence.
TERMS
1. Fixed Term Contract for 10 weeks starting 3rd March 2025
2. 45 hours per week with occasional overtime and weekend working required.
