Job Description
The salary for this role is £54,376 (inclusive of a Scarcity Market Premium Payment (MPP)). Onsite working is expected for 3 days each week, however, we actively support requests for flexible working.
This role is to be based at the following site: Culham, Oxfordshire.
This role requires employees to complete an online Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS), including The Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) checks for criminal convictions and possibly a search of open source data.
The Role
Are you looking for an exciting opportunity to make a difference? Join our team and contribute to the future of fusion energy. As a Mechanical CAD Designer, you will produce CAD documents to UKAEA CAD Standards for the design of fusion devices and related technologies.
You'll need to be highly experienced in the use of CAD applications and be able to advise on the most appropriate CAD outputs to meet the customer requirements.
You will develop strong working relationships with the engineering delivery team and assertively develop CAD documents to appropriate levels of maturity in line with the product's lifecycle.
Key Accountabilities:
* Production, Presentation and Peer Review of 2D and 3D Drawings to UKAEA CAD Standards.
* Contribute to the development of Model Based CAD methodologies including the use of Model Based Definition (MBD).
* Application of tolerances (including GD&T) & Tolerance Stack Analysis to ensure the product functions as intended.
* Appropriate decomposition of CAD as per the system architecture.
* Regular review of the system architecture in collaboration with the Systems Engineering team to ensure fitness for purpose.
* Plant and component surveys, both manual and technology assisted.
* Estimation of effort to inform project scheduling and budgets.
Qualifications
* A Mechanical Engineering HND/HNC/Apprenticeship or equivalent experience.
* A sound understanding of CAD tools and their application within the design process.
* A good working knowledge of BS 8888:2020 and its normative references.
* Experience designing technically complex highly integrated systems.
* Strong working knowledge of materials, Design For Manufacture (DFM) & Design For Assembly (DFA).
* A good understanding of configuration control.
* Trained in the use of Geometrical Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T).
* Experience detailing welded fabrications.
* Experience working within a scientific research and development environment.
* Experience with relevant environmental factors such as vacuum, tritium and transient magnetic fields.
